Seriously Chris, WTF happened to your career?

Now if you were to ask the movie going audience of today "What do you know Christopher Lambert for?", most would say "Who the hell is Christopher Lambert?".The rest would say Highlander. If they said Mortal Kombat, then you have my permission to floor them with a roundhouse kick to the head (spine ripping optional).

Yes Connor MacLeod is certainly his most memorable role. However that has a lot to do with Highlander being one of the best self contained movie's ever made, with one of the best soundtrack's to boot. It wasn't written with a sequel in mind, let alone a franchise. No, his best performance was as Tarzan in the awesomely named 'Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes'. Could you imagine trying to get away with a title that long today. Incredibly, this film manages a realistic portrayal of Tarzan. It's like "The Dark Knight" of Tarzan movies & Lambert, amazingly, manages to pull it off. They even manage to explain why he speaks with a French accent.

Seriously, if he'd chosen his roles with more care, he could've been the French version of Daniel Day Lewis. Instead he became the thinking man's Van-Damme. Such a shame.

I used to have the Willem Dafoe living under my bed.

Here here. So sad his career went so downhill. He could easily become another "Arnie" if he have had some luck with the roles. He surely has the charisma and enough talent to pull it off.

"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford."

A little sad I guess for an actor's debut performance to be the high point of his career, though as you point out, he made "The Highlander" franchise what it was.

The high point of Patty Dukes career was "The Miracle Worker".

The rest of her career was unremarkable or just plain silly.

And here I was thinking it had to have been The Patty Dukes Show.🐭

Unlike other Oscar winners such as Louise Fletcher, F. Murray Abraham, George Chakiris and Lou Gossett Jr, who the feeling has been they should have done more after their win, it seemed to be fairly well known Patty Duke in The Miracle Worker would never be topped and even today is a highly regarded child performance, but there was no way she was going to remain that age, so there was nothing else she could do.

I saw her on numerous programs in the seventies, such as Curse of the Black Widow, Hanging By A Thread and others and wondered why she was trashed so badly in her movies. When she appeared on Love Boat with Ricky Nelson, I wondered why he was appearing with such an older woman and he in fact was a year older than her.

I didn't see the Miracle Worker until years later, having seen the tv remake with Melissa Gilbert first. Quite honestly, I was astounded when I finally watched that movie. This is Patty Duke Astin? The silly nit in all those tv movies?

By the way, I didn't see The Patty Duke show until much later on, but do recall the surprise when Nickelodeon started up and there was a sensation over the Patty Duke show-Mr. Ed hour clearly getting some ratings against network tv.

So she has some stability and credibility to her name.

I've never seen Highlander anything and I'm watching Greystoke now. Haven't seen it in years. He just found the other monkeys.

So, you are saying that her performance in "The Miracle Worker" was due to her age? The older she got the worse she got?

If anything, her well documented mental/emotional illnesses are what sent her career down the tubes. Pathetic, but there it is.

Duke and Sally Field are two of the biggest piles of dog dung that were forced on and then "embraced" (with a heckuvalot of PR) by the public.

As for Lambert, he didn't do much "acting" in "Greystoke". His real lack of talent began to show in later roles. Apparently, his agent/publicist wasn't able to continue "selling" him the way those of Duke and Fields were able to do.

I believe what I witness, not what someone tries to sell me as a bill of goods. Unfortunately, Film/TV is filled with a long list of ZEROES "sold" to the viewing public.

Considering that Lambert is now appearing in films by Claire Denis and the Coen Brothers, I'd like to think that he's on the right track. His immediate post-Greystoke career showed immense promise, with well-acted roles in small French films (he even won a Cesar award for best actor for Luc Besson's Subway). Highlander was a brilliant role, but it also typecast him as a sort of B-grade Eastwood in silly films. But the past few years have been kind to Lambert, and I hope the streak continues.

I agree. I love both Highlander and Tarzan and his best performance was Tarzan. No other Tarzan film has topped it imo.
