What is this movie??

Okay, I've been racking my brain in an attempt to locate this movie. I watched it as a rental as a kid in the 80's.

It was a live action monster movie, I think Japanese, with people insuits. The hero wore this red costume that also covered his face, almost looked like a power ranger. He had amazing powers. I seem to remember him dying and then coming back to life to save the day.
