Typical Hollywood religion hatred

I just saw this wretched movie for the first time in maybe 20 years. Horrible movie in almost every way. Stupid premise, Terrible acting (except for maybe Kathleen Turner), a soundtrack that is glaringly misused, and of course, the bad guy is a religious person. Why is it that Hollywood hates religion? Take a look at, oh, Cape Fear. Or The Last Temptation of Christ. Or Dogma. Or maybe a thousand more. Now, let's see Hollywood make a movie about REAL bad religious people; Muslims. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Sure Billy. That'll happen.

Many schizophrenics have religious delusions, and were raised in fundementalist faiths. There IS something scary about being told there's this invisible giant who's ALWAYS watching and judging you, and is prepared to torture you for the littlest thing by tossing you in a lake of eternal fire. That screws up some people's minds.

Anthony Perkins character is extreme...but I always think there's something quite off about those zealous street preachers I see. And Perkins character isn't a real priest, just a sicko with issues.

Ah, Cookie, I think you're mixing up movies with reality. What schizo that you know was raised by religions fundamentalists? Do you know a fundamentalist? Is that person weird? I say you'd honestly say no to the previous questions. What religion (besides the Muslim religion, a.k.a. The Religion of Peace tm) tortures you for "the littlest thing"? And about street preachers, I'm almost 60 years old and have never seen one except in the movies, where they're almost commonplace. Get real.

Well, if you have read the Bible, you will know we are told:

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

This means we are to follow the entire Bible, and hell awaits those who do not follow God's word in it to the smallest point and instruction.

Personally, I would consider being thrown into an eternal lake of fire rather tortuous. Especially if it was because I did not do some seemingly minor thing, like build a railing around the roof of my house or something.

As for street preachers, do you live in a major city? They're in the ones I've lived in.

You are delusional.

The bad guy is NOT a "religious person", he's INSANE.

Oh...there's a difference now?

reply

Why is a God-fearing citizen such as yourself watching a flick like this anyways?

reply

Ves, good question. I don't remember. Simple as that.

reply

Doesn't it bother you at all that you are a member of the Evil Cult called Christianity?

reply

Wow, Ves. Great retort. You must have thought long and hard about that one. Oh, I'm sorry, you said "Christianity". I thought you said "Islam". Now that would have made sense.

You are a complete hypocrite, all boohoo! about Hollywood's alleged hatred towards Xtianity while you show nothing but hatred towards Mouslims. You contribute nothing to humanity and not even to your imaginery God.

Btw. Why has a God-fearing citizen stolen his moniker from a well known outlawn who broke at least 5th and 7th Command?

reply

Ya know, Ves, I very wise man said it's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're stupid.

Now, judging by your grammar, spelling, punctuation, and thought path; I am fairly sure you won't get this.

See, I was correct. You didn't get it.

And I proved my case that you simply cannot turn the other cheek as the book tells you to.

It's a 1984 movie. Even if this alleged Hollywood hatred exists this movie is too old to be classified as a suitable example for our time. The argument would have carried more weight had the movie been more recent. Wrong board, I'd say. I agree with one thing though. It's a horrible movie.

There are some defeats more triumphant than victories.

reply

Religion screws people up, makes them judgmental and self-loathing. Religion is evil.

And in case you weren't aware: Muslims do not equal terrorists. That would be like stating that every Baptist blows up abortion clinics.

reply

Yeah, Ken Russell is SOOO Hollywood, man.

Does Hollywood hate religion, or people who use religion in ways the religion was never intended to be used (or interpreted)?
