Huh? Brilliant!!

Am I the only person who thinks this movie is brilliantly funny?

"I didn't hear you knock."
"What a relief, I thought I was going deaf."

Ha ha ha ha! It had me in stitches!!!

WOO!!! Go City Heat!!!

Have a great day.

I REALLY DIDN'T THINK THIS WAS THAT BAD EITHER.I ENJOYED IT.I MEAN JUST TO SEE BURT AND CLINT ACT TOGETHER IN THE SAME MOVIE,WAS A GREAT IDEA IN THE FIRST PLACE.

reply

It is a witty, and original, flick. it's not you - it's the clam-brains who read what the critics said.

it's a funny 'buddy' film, which also features fine secondary casting.

Honestly I don't see why so many reviewer hate this film.

Sure it's not Oscar material, but it's a whole lot of fun to watch and tons of classic lines.

Shame Blake Edwards was fired, bet he would of made the film even better.

reply

I agree, it's a great film, very funny at times, and not too demanding to watch.

reply

Yeah, it's not all that bad. Some parts get a bit corny (we get it, his gun is bigger than yours); but on the whole it's well acted, has some great action scenes (the stairway shootout is fantastic), some funny jokes, memorable characters, and has a better plot than a lot of the trash it's unfairly lumped in with.

A very undeserved bad reputation. I've enjoyed it every time I've seen it, and will watch it again.

reply

Agree totally!

Great noir picture with a really wicked dialog!
This is the kind of movie that you return to over and over again.

the 'lead' review today says Eastwood is 'wooden' - Hullo!!!!! he's playing a big thug of a plain-clothes cop, with little personality - he even asks his date to address him by his title 'Lieutenant' - as a way of being less formal .

this was a nifty period-piece, with great stunts, and some witty lines ("he calls us nuts - he's got the drop on the luggage", "why are you holding the gun on the suitcase - it's already dead").. satirical approach to the noir film (we can't take the gunplay too seriously - there's enough absurdity to keep it light i.e. during one shoot-out, a guy runs around howling because he needs to hit the washroom; another thug gets hit with buckshot in the derrière, etc.).

and a great cast... with some terrific music..

- reviewers here at IMDB seem obsessed with the business of making the film, or at what point were the careers of the 2 great leads? who cares? it's fun to watch.. (another guy goes on about plot points he can't believe .. yikes: it's a comedy/buddy/period-piece/gangster film** !! got news for you: the shark in Jaws wasn't real.. people who question such things shouldn't watch comedy)

seen anything this original and witty in the last 15 years, besides 'Rush Hour'? (PG?)

** 8/10 for this genre - compare: Rush Hour-1 9/10 Rush Hour-3 .09/10

...and tons of classic lines.
I agree with you; there are some really good lines. But you can see where the trouble lay by reading posts on this thread. Supposedly suspenseful action scenes like the stair shootout and Swift's fairly gruesome demise, sit uneasily alongside cartoon - fun type shootouts in warehouses, punch-ups with one of our heroes in a wolf's disguise and some genuinely funny, witty dialogue. It really couldn't be described as a compatible mix. Added to this, for much of the film Eastwood and Reynolds aren't even onscreen together .

It was a disappointment when released and the passage of time hasn't given me any new reasons to change my opinion.

reply

Although there were some corny dialogue and cliche scenarios, the chemistry between Eastwood and Reynolds was fun to watch.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

reply

Love this film. Great comedy pairing of Eastwood and Reynolds.
Jane Alexander was great as well. :-)

KoshN - Brimstone [Stone lights a candle for the dead.] Gina: Who's that for? Ezekiel Stone: Me.

I thought this was a lot of fun. Burt Reynolds has always been a funny man but having Clint Eastwood in there to royally take the mickey out of himself was too good to miss.

"Doesn't anybody knock anymore?"

"This really is furniture polish."

Anyhow, anyone who doesn't think this is funny hasn't got much of a sense of humour.

Yeah, I don't understand the low rating on IMDb. It's a solid film. Call it cheesy, or corny or whatever other stupid words you have for it, it's a blast. When did good stuff become cheesy and corny, anyway?

reply

It's underrated.Highly enjoyable, good looking film with some good comedy and action. It's better than the junk that comes out nowadays that's for sure.

reply

I don't understand why this movie is rated so low yet ''Thunderbolt and Lightfoot'' is rated so high. City Heat wasn't anything great - but it was somewhat clever.

It was a fun little piece. The chemistry never really clicks between Eastwood and Reynolds, but I mostly blame Reynolds for that. It's fun seeing Eastwood when he goes crazy when someone spills his drink.

I really like it, gave it a 7.

I remember thinking it was ok but I’d have to watch it again to be sure.
