I felt bad for Jake...

I mean, he was a good boyfriend (as far as we could tell) to Jessie - he fed her drugs for a while (a friendly hookup!) then got her clean. She threw him away - for what? For $50K and a vacation to Cozumel? So what if he could be a possessive controlling criminal? He was a good BOYFRIEND!

Also, toward the end, we see he's just a pawn in the larger game - though, perhaps a slightly evil one. But still - she didn't know that!

After his conversation with her on the beach, i saw the real devotion Jake had for Jessie - perhaps a possessive jealousy, but that was Terry's problem too - everyone wanted Jessie a little TOO much.

And frankly, who can blame them - 1984 Rachel Ward was a the BOMB.

Yeah Jake had it bad for Jess, but she just dug Terry. Bummer for Jake.
He got some tho anyway you gotta figure so ... better to have gotten some and
lost it than never getting any at all. No?

Woods really acted his axx off in this flick. The scene atop the hill at the end
his line reading of, "Right in my xxxking face", is one of the most memorable takes by an actor/actress I've ever seen. Man Woods REALLY sold that he WAS hurting. Absolutely great acting.

But again, Jess wasn't in love w/ him anymore - if she ever was that is - so
Jake could spill his guts - and heart - out and it wasn't going to make a bit of difference.

Not that the guy typing this reply would know about that tho.
No not at all ... ;-) But when a dame don't love you anymore,

Jake was a good guy really. Sure ..Ben was helping him out...but he was making good money w the club and running numbers on the side I think he said to the tune of 500k a week.
He wanted to help his buddy out so he gave him a good job to make some cash, Jake didn't think Terry would back stab like that. Can't blame him for being tempted, she was hott, maybe he should have just banged her and brought her back to jake. BuT getting all emotional q her was a huge *beep* couldn't Terry see what she did to Jake (not just the knife would but mentally) and knew she was a deadly viper?? Woods character was cool...one of his best roles...I play poker w woods at the bicycle casino, if u ever want to meet him he's there all the fking time lol.

Woods has acted his a** off in damn near everything he's done, simply because he's always been that damn good of an actor, period. Just saw the last part of this film, and it looked pretty good--didn't know he was in it---I remember the Phil Collins song being a big hit back in the day because I also liked it, but I also recall the movie getting panned and not making that much of an impression at the box office. I recall the video though.

I felt worse for Terry and Jake was just trying to get whatever he wants because he had money, and control his girlfriend as he wanted to. To me that is not a good guy. I would not do that to any women. She could not take him in what he was doing and to her anymore. That is what happens to a lot of relationships. Why would a women want to be controlled a lot. That is what Jake did.

Terry got screwed and lost his love. I would loved if she was able to stick with Terry. James Woods is over hyped actor. I like a few of his movies but to me this was not his best. That lady took Terry for a ride and left him hanging over the edge, and then she had the nerve to go back to Jake and say she loved Terry. I would said the same thing Terry did to her.

Terry was the good one in a bad situation. He got screwed by everyone in the movie.

No more IMDB boards for me!

Agreed. Jake is much nicer - all around - than Whit (Sterling) in "Out of the Past".
