billie and Christine in purple

Does anybody know why Billie and Christine almost always wore purple/dark blue? On a side note I did like Billie, but her acting was more suited for the stage as opposed to TV. But I can see why the creators always wanted Markie Post on the show. She is an underrated beauty and a very good actress.
