A DOCUMENTARY ON MY BUDDIES

the culture portrayed in this film actually exists, and i love it. unfortunately, i think in some ways they are misrepresented here. for example, the scene where the girls clothes are torn off at the concert...i've never known any punkers who would do that... if you've had experience with the squat/punk society, please add yer thoughts.

Had some of the best fun of my life in the punk scene circa mid 80's to early 90's, back when it was still vibrant and relevant, even played in a few punk bands myself though none of them really went anywhere beyond the local clubs and garages. *lol* The glossy crapola that Hot Topic churns out these days is at best a piss poor representation of what came before, and I'm grateful for the hilarious and exciting adventures I had back then. So many awesome moments, stories, friendships... granted, this was the Toledo/Detroit scene so it wasn't as out of control huge as the West and East Coast scenes, but the fact that we were somewhat smaller made it a more tightly knit group dynamic. The great thing about our scene was that 99.9% of everything we did was for a laugh. We weren't thugs and we avoided trouble as best we could (though we did have a couple bad apples that came close to derailing the fun train a few times) but we still caught heat for simply showing up en masse. We fought when we had to, we laughed, we cried, we dumpster dived and crashed where we could, and I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Best of all, a pretty decent percentage of the core group is still in touch and the laughs come as easy as they did back then. Ah, youth... :)
