Interesting. I've seen the movie several times over the years and that never occurred to me before.
That is interesting in relation to the event of Mac's daughter getting killed in a car crash. I had mixed feelings about that. On one hand I think they're trying to depict the mystery of the ups and downs of life, the stream of it all. That's reflected in Mac's dialogue, where he says why did Rosa find him and help him straighten out his life, why did the daughter die, and "I don't trust happiness".
But part of me feels like it was gratuitous to have a character suddenly die, and someone young with most of her life ahead of her.
But if they were going to kill off somebody, I'm glad they at least did it the way they did rather than have the boy get hit by a car right before the closing credits!
