Of course Jim Starlin ripped-off Darkseid to create his Thanos for Marvel (which ended up stealing Darkseid's thunder due to the popularity of the Avengers flicks). In Starlin's defense, his original conception of Thanos was more akin to Metron, but editor Roy Thomas encouraged him: "Beef him up! If you're going to steal one of the New Gods, at least rip off Darkseid, the really good one!"
