Why is King Minos on an asteroid in space?

I found that confusing. He's king of a kingdom called Thera, right? So why do they always seem to show him (like when talking with Daedelus) seemingly out in space? And even at the end when Hercules and Circe come to Thera for the final showdown, it looks like the city is out in space. Or on a planet with no atmosphere around it. Are they even supposed to be on Earth?

I always took it that he projected to a place in outer space in order to commune with Daedelus. He exists on Earth, obviously, but through his "science" would transport to a realm where he could communicate directly with supernatural beings.

But it is confusing. They talk about Thebes being a kingdom with 90 cities, and mention Atlantis. It seems like sometime characters travel through space to get there, but Adriana (Sybil Danning) sails there on a boat with Cassiopeia after kidnapping her.
