Has anyone here been attacked by a dog?

I've never been attacked by a dog, but I came close the other day. As I was waiting for the bus at 6:30 in the morning, it was pitch black outside. My neighborhood doesn't have streetlights and hardly anyone keeps their lights on, so it was very dark.

My neighbors have a dog who is old, senile, big, and unpredictable. He gets out of the electric fence and roams the neighborhood. When I was waiting for the bus in the dark by myself, the dog had apparently gotten loose and started barking at me. Even though he's old and slow, it was dark outside, and he's a dark collored dog, so I couldn't see where he was, I could just hear his barking getting closer and closer to me. Fortunately, the owner came out to get him. There was another time, when I was in 8th grade back in 2002, I was waiting for the bus, and the neighbors out of control German Sheppard, who has apparently attacked a few people, came up to me and the other kids at the bus stop and started growling and showing his teeth at us. Fortunately the owner was there to bring him home, otherwise he would have attacked us, and this german sheppard wasn't slow or senile.

Has anyone here ever been attacked by a dog for real, or just had a close encounter?

I've been bitten by my own dogs when I had them, and the pain is unforgettable.

Once, when I was six years old, I was attacked by a standard poodle that belonged to my aunt and uncle. It pounced on me, knocked me to the ground, and bit my face. My sister, who was eight at the time, immediately screamed for help; our dad heard her, rushed over, and snatched me away from the dog.

This wasn't the only time when this dog bit someone. Eventually, he was put to sleep.

Luckily, I wasn't seriously hurt or left with a fear of dogs. *gives a belly rub to one of her two chocolate labs*

I never got attacked by one, but I got chased by one when I was like 10 and it scared me to death. My neighbor had a doberman pincher that always worried me 'cuz of how wild it was. One day I was walking around the side of the house and froze completely when I saw that the dog had broken loose and was standing a few yards away. Not knowing what else to do, I started to back up and stuttered things like "N-nice doggy..." and stuff, and without warning it broke into a dash and started running after me. I ran around the front of the house screaming bloody murder and I could hear the teenagers (who always played street hockey) LAUGHING at me as the dog chased me. I finally backed up against the other side of the house while the dog was still turning the corner, so he didn't see me and ran past me. Then I ran into the house and started crying. I've been afraid of dobermans ever since. D:

I remembered playing over at a relatives house. They had a Doberman, and he was running around in the backyard with us as me and my cousins ran around, playing tag. I think he got so excited, he then jumped on me, not to attack, but to play. I started screaming because I thought he was going to bite me. My aunt had to race over and drag me away from him. It wasn't really an attack, just a dog who got overexcited.

Interesting, someone beat me to it about a beagle.

My parents owned four beagles through my childhood up until now (spanning 20 years). The "small" beagles (13 inches, I think) have never been anything but friendly. But the bigger beagle (15 inches) was always very surly and about five years old, started to bite. The one time it got me was when I hovered over his head (face to face) and asked him for a kiss. Instead he bit my throat. I, of course, tried to jump away. I could feel my throat skin being stretched and pulled in his teeth, before the flesh finally cleared through his jaws like bubble gum.

Only left a small gash, but could've been much worse I imagine. The next day ironically was Halloween, and instead of telling of what an idiot I was, I told people it was "fake blood" make-up. They bought it.

Last week I was washing my wife's car in my driveway when this huge boxer came running up from behind me. He bit me "not hard" but enough to hurt on my calf and held on. I reached down and punched that dog in the head as hard as I could and he fell down and then ran away yelping.

When I was a kid I walked past this old piece of crap house to get to my freinds house and they had a medium sized dog. Not sure what kind, but it would come running out and chase me down the street everytime I went by. I told my dad about it and he went and told the guy who owned the house to keep the dog on a chain or he would kill it. The guy told my dad that he wasn't going to. So, one after noon my dad got his .44 and went to the guys house, picked up the dog and threw him in the passenger seat of the truck. My dad then picked up speed to about 70mph and then rolled his window down and threw the dog out the window. He put it in reverse and saw the dog was still alive so he put 3 rounds into it. The guy came around looking for his dog and asked my dad "What did you do to my dog?" My dad said, "It'll be nothing compared to what I do to you if you don't get your f-ing a--ss off my property." The guy never came around again and ended up moving like a year later and the house was torn down.

When I was a kid, I owned a golden retriever and when we'd play he'd bite my shoes because he knew that anywhere else would hurt. He was such a good dog.

Down the street, there was this german shepard that would bark every time I walked by it's fence. One time it got loose when I was riding my bike past and it chased me for blocks. I decided to take a detour and go into a heavily trafficked area in the hopes that a car would plow the stupid thing down. Unfortunately, the cars would stop and then the dog was scared and stopped chasing me. The owners got him back and promised to keep him chained up so we wouldn't file a complaint.

Wow, so your dad decided it was the dog that was the problem? Why not shoot the owner and take the dog and train it properly. Unless the dog was completely insane, it's the owners fault and not the dogs.

What interests me is 1) Your dad was able to pick up the poor dog and throw him into the passenger seat of the car without any kind of fight (sounds like the dog was not much of a threat and small enough to pick up, chuck onto the truck seat and then throw out the window of a truck moving at 70mph 2) The dude actually bothered to look for his dog 3) Your dad shot the dog 3 times on a public road and then left the dog to rot?

I hope this was all just make believe, but I do sincerely hope your dad had/has an incredibly horrible terrible painful death

When I was very young, I was petting a friendly pooch that suddenly lunged at my ear giving it a permanent scar (I might actually be missing a piece!)
(guess it was Mike Tyson's dog (bad joke drum noise))

I remember when I was little kid, I was walking outside for some reason. It was a somewhat overcast day. I thought my brother was next door at his friends house so i walked next door and then noticed 2 black dogs sorta coming towards me down the street. I quickly went up to the persons porch, and rang the doorbell. I looked back and the dogs were coming up the stairs towards me. I got Soooo scared I grabbed the screen door on the front door and just stood between that and the front door (no one would answer the front door). As soon as I did this the dogs just stopped and looked at me, then they just turned away and left.

It was pretty scary at the time, I think I would still be scared if that happened.
