Bad Soundtrack.

The soundtrack to Tron is one of the worst in movie history.
It put me to sleep in 1982 and then again today as I showed my two sons (24 & 19)the movie for the first time.

If the makers of the film wanted electronic music, they should have hired Vangelis.

I think Vangellis would have been to sweeping. I think the score is perfect for the medium. It's supposed to be reminiscant of the video game background music of the time. Works perfectly in my opinion.

To OP.

You're dissing Wendy Carlos??

Unbelievable.

The same who worked with Stanley Kubrick for "A clockwork orange" and "The Shining".

Who essentially INVENTED electronic music with the very important album "Switched on Back" in 1968? That was THE album that introduced 100% synthesizer based music to a larger audience.

Vangelis. Not dissing him, but he tends to get repetitive and was never once as groundbreaking and innovative like Wendy Carlos.

OP is a troll no doubt.

Wendy Carlos did electronic music before Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Jarre and also your Vangelis.

I disagree. There were a lot of electronic soundtracks in the 80s that were far worse. I thought they were cool back then, but I hear them now and they sound like cheesy video games. At least Tron had an excuse for the technical, sterile sound.

reply

Give me some 80's electronic soundtracks that you do like and do not sound like cheesy video games

reply

The music was memorable for me.
But also harsh and irritating in places!
Strangely like the music in Marble Madness, but that's another story...

reply

I loved that game and I loved the music too.

Daddy! He's killed Steve and he's jamming the door with him!

reply

I too disagree. I love the soundtrack, especially tracks like "Magic Landings", which defy categorization. "Light Sailer" is really impressive too.

reply

"One of the worst in movie history." "Worst movie ever." How I love those asinine statements. It just shows you haven't seen many bad movies yet. Probably not many movies at all...

Vangelis! Tss!

Almost as boring as Tangerine Dream's constant gurgling noises!

(Anyone else I can diss?)

Hmmm?

The soundtrack is one that has stayed with me my whole life.

Imprinted on me in my youth, i still find myself occassionally humming
the Solar Sailor theme and the actual Tron Theme..

The OP's post is one of the worst in IMDb history. There, see how easy it is to be hyperbolic?

I think I could speak for most Tron fans that if they altered the original soundtrack we would be super pizzed!
