One unanswered question.
After watching for the umpteenth time, the viewer never knows if Khan actually witnessed the Enterprise warp.
Did he die thinking it was a draw?
There was no reaction shot of Khan when the Enterprise warped out, so I would say that Nicholas Meyer wanted the audience to believe that Khan died without knowing that he'd lost.
