I've always wanted to see this movie, but it is never on television, and it seems to have disappeared. Is it any good?

Yep. I saw it on a late night showing during the 90's. It's an amazing film with some truly terrific performances. Sadly overlooked, it needs a DVD release BADLY.
shareI've seen it. A little mom and pop video store had it in a small town in Florida where I used to live. That was before the days of Amazon, of course.
It's a fantastic movie that just adds more ammo to the "what the hell happened to Michael O'Keefe?" cannon.
I've seen this several times, and I concur with other posters here that it is an excellent movie with a great plot and high-profile cast that turn in fantastic performances (Woods, in particular, fits the part of the de-programmer like a glove). Definitely a highly under-rated and virtually unknown film.
I bought it off Amazon (it's not that expensive) and have watched it several times. I think it's a really good movie, but I'm also completely obsessed with cults :)
shareI actually saw it in a theater. The film really seemed dumped by the studio and got a one week only type of release. It's a widescreen film, so a letterbox DVD is needed badly.
shareI worked at a video store in the 80s and we had an "Employee Suggestions" section. Split Image was always on that rack---me and my co-workers loved the film (being fans of the entire cast). Every customer that checked it out liked it too. Too bad the studio (Avco/Embassy, I think) went under. Whoever owns the rights (MGM is buying up a lot of those early 80s unknown gems) needs to get it out on DVD. Pronto. And Michael O'Keefe was recently in "Michael Clayton," although I barely recognized him.

I think it's one of the most daring films of its time.Talking about religious cults,dealing with the freedom of will,etc.
I'd definitely want to have a DVD widescreen edition.
Ticket to Heaven and Jesus Camp are two similar movies--equally disturbing. Jesus Camp is a documentary.

I have, I was in it. I too am looking for the DVD. I bought the VCR, I watched it and when I rewound it, it got tangled all up, so now I'm looking agin for it on DVD
shareEver since I first saw this movie back in the day, whenever I hear about a kid that's got problems because of bad influences, I think the parents should hire James Woods. :)
shareI have certainly seen this movie, (and the last time was something like 20 years ago.). I recorded it off HBO back in the day, and watched the hell out of it. Check my posting history, and you'll find that I dislike most things... But this movie is a little diamond in the rough. I've tried to find torrents for it, they either don't exist or I don't know what the hell I'm doing...
It wasn't a great movie, but it was a damn good one, and great in my book. The fact that I think it's great doesn't mean much; The sun doesn't rise and set off the back of my ass or I'd have noticed by now... Still, it bothers me that utter trash like "I Spit On Your Grave" is easy to find, and this one is like finding a jpeg of the Loch Ness Monster sharing a deep-fried peanut butter and banana sandwich with Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa.
I'll go on Amazon or Ebay someday soon and just buy the antiquated VHS. Still, it's sad that I have to resort to that. This movie deserves a DVD or blueray release.

Excellent movie. Karen Allen is amazing in Split Image as the beautiful girl who lures Michael O'Keefe into the cult.
