Such a Lazy Sequel

Looks the most of the original writers, director and producers were shut out of this sequel, so the remaining original producer could simply take more of their share of the profits. And in doing so, he simply rehashed all the old jokes and plot.

SO lazy.

Lazy in a creative way. The original writers/directors passed on the sequel because they were worried they couldn't make an actual sequel without doing the same thing over again. But because AIRPLANE was a huge hit, the studio wanted another. A science fiction twist was a neat touch, though. A third would've been made had this been a success. Perhaps the same plot, only on a boat this time?

A boat. lol

Good points though.

Yeh, this movie is very sloppy, careless and 'unrealistic' (I know it's not exactly realism you expect from a comedy, but this movie has no 'realistic grounding' that the first movie has, which makes the jokes really funny - this movie treats everything as 'well, anything goes, so who cares' and everything is very sloppy, nothing is synced properly, etc).

Without Shatner, I probably wouldn't even have this movie.

The ZAZ team was approached to do it, but they didn't want to. They felt that they had done enough of that with the first film and what else could they do with it? Notice some other actors didn't come back either, which was smart of them.
