I though I recognized Dennis Farina so I looked it up and sure enough he starred in this movie as his first acting job (according to IMDb anyway).
Would it be correct to say that Dennis Farina had Michael Mann to thank for his acting career?
Other than Thief he also had roles in Mann's Manhunter (1986) as well as in Miami Vice and even as the protagonist in Crime Story.
I can't help but thinking that Michael Mann deliberately chose to have Dennis Farina act in many of the projects he was involved in.

Dennis Farina was an CPD Area 3 Detective when he was discovered for this part
