The WORST Zombie Flick? WORST?

I think not.

Maybe it's ME who is the weird one, but Nightmare City, Oasis Of The Zombies, and Zombie 4/5 are what I deem "total crap". So bad they're... bad. Unwatchable.

True, VIRUS has bad stock footage. It ripped off Dawn of the Dead (the story AND the music). It has bad voice-overs. But it's fun! It's entertaining. Awesome gore (The Eyeball Scene... yes). Awesome corpses.

It's no "Zombi II" or "Carnival Of Souls" but it's a pretty *beeping* good way to spend a boring night after working late. Yes, I like it, have seen it about 4 or 5 times, and will so again. And probably again.

"Flesh Eater" is like a student film combining Friday the 13th with a zombie from the original "Night of the Living Dead."

Unwatchable.

"Zombie 5: Killing Birds" makes "Zombie 4" look like "Burial Ground." Or to translate, "Killing Birds" is completely unwatchable, while "Zombie 4" is almost unwatchable. Of course, "Burial Ground" aka "The Nights of Terror" is a mssterpiece with the incomparable dwarf-playing-kid Peter Bark.

So, I say a tie for worst zombie flicks goes to "Fleah Eaters" and "Zombie 5: Killing Birds."

I would have to go with Zombie Lake the cool looking cover sucked me in but God did I learn my lesson. Zombie Lake SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

reply

i agree, this is a higly entertaining flic but i still consider Nightmare City lightyears better. Zombie 4 and 5 are on the other hand is probaly the worst of the worst.

"Hell of the Living Dead" is bad, but at least it's laughably bad in it's ineptitude, and it's never boring.

As far as worst zombie movie, I'd say that it's "Curse of the Screaming Dead" aka "Curse of the Cannibal Confederates", followed by "Oasis of the Zombies" and "Meat Market."

I don't like the term "so bad it's good". Who cares if the humor is unintentional? Is the filmmaker's intention really relevent at all? All that matters is the final product and the viewer's interpretation. I don't know about the rest of you, but I watch movies to enjoy myself. I enjoyed the HELL outta myself with this flick so I would say it's a great movie. The stock footage is GENIUS! HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD is definitely one of my favorite non-Romero zombie movies, along with the sleazy BURIAL GROUND and the underrated GRAPES OF DEATH.

If you guys think HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD is funny you should check out the filmmakers' (Director Bruno Mattei and writer Claudio Fragrasso) other work. The writer, Claudio Fragrasso, would later write and direct the comedy masterpiece TROLL 2 (of which Bruno Mattei supervised on). Bruno Mattei has directed other amazing movies such as CRUEL JAWS (hilarious Jaws rip-off), SHOCKING DARK (Terminator rip-off), STRIKE COMMANDO (Rambo rip-off), and ROBOWAR (Predator rip-off). Bruno Mattei was a smart filmmaker and sought after the lucrative markets. He was a great journeyman and while none of these films are as gory as HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD, they're great in their own ways and they're all extremely funny.

Worst zombie movie? I don't consider any of the DTV zombie movies real zombie movies, nor do I consider any of the recent zombie movies "legitimate" zombie movies. I would say Zombie Lake was pretty damn unsatisfying though considering it's an 80s eurozombie flick (which I normally love).

Day of the Dead 2? Zombie Lake? Curse of the Screaming Dead? Children of the Living Dead? These are bad, yes, but these films are on top of the crap-pile, but down below soaking in the crap is the world of Todd Sheets-

Zombie Rampage (1989)
The Zombie Bloodbath Trilogy

But don't worry, Todd isn't alone, Chris Seaver is down in there holding his hand-

Mulva: Zombie Ass Kicker! (2001)

I collect dead pigeons then I press them between the pages of a book.

Add Zombie Night and Deadlands: The Rising to the pile of crap.

Zombie Night made me want to track down everyone involved, and slap them. I can understand that amateur movies aren't going to have the production values of A movies, and that the film maker just has to make do with what he has, but when you have actors just sitting there emotionless as their character, or the character's loved ones are being eaten alive, something is very wrong.Hire some homeless people instead, or something. And lets not even mention the massive plot holes.

Deadlands is just an incoherent mess. Apparently it started out as a short film, and became a full length one in the middle of production. Ok, that's cool I guess. At least until you realize that the original footage was mostly of people hanging out on the freeway, in a traffic jam, sort of talking, but mostly just hanging out, trying to seem angry and/or frightened. The director tacked on some uninteresting crap about a husband trying to get home, and a rescue station, magically turning a 20 minute piece of crap, into a 90 minute piece of crap.

reply

Yes....Mulva is the worst.haha

reply

Agreed.

Eaten Alive (1980) 6/10
Rabid Dogs 9/10
Hell of the Living Dead 8/10
Cello 7/10

No it's not "so bad it's good".

I honestly believe this movie is a masterpiece, and up there along with Zombi 2 as one of the best zombie movies of all time.

* There's always something happening.
* The music is brilliant.
* The scenary is brilliant.
* The story is great. It's very creative IMO and some of it is quite realistic.
* The gore is brilliant, as are the shots such as the woman drowned in blood near the end.

You guys talking about "great in its ineptitude" can shove it. Just because it doesn't receive the critical praise as Zombi 2 and isn't quite as good...

The "worst zombie movie" is referring to of the five "Zombi" movies. An opinion I think is in horrible taste, but NOTHING like comparing it to Zombie Lake or cack like that. Let's try to have a bit of sanity and realism here!!!

reply

Hate to contradict you but a few points...

The music is not even original it's "borrowed" from Dawn of the Dead (a proper zombie film) and Contamination.

The majority of the scenary shots of the animals and natives are "borrowed" from a different film.

The story's alright, it's fun, but doesn't make any sense whatsoever... i think it's because the dubbing is so rubbish, fun, but let's face it rubbish.

The gore is plentiful but obviously fake.

Zombi 2 stands up against "proper" films i.e. non-splatter/exploitation flicks... it's beautifully crafted and has a proper storyline that you can really follow and get into.

The worst Zombie flick would be the Night of the Living Dead version that featured footage of Debbie Rochon and Grant Cramer trying to give the Zombie in the cemetery character. I would rather admit to watching and liking the colorized version to NotLD than liking the 25th ANNIVERSARY version

reply

The worst?
That would be: Death Warmed Up.

reply

I've not seen Death Warmed Up, but I'd advise anyone to steer well clear of Automaton Transfusion, aka Zombie Transfusion.. It's terrible, plus it looks like it was shot on someone's mobile phone. Absolute sheisser.
