The trivia for this is wrong

The Galaxy Glue didn't make her shrink. It was the mixture of Sexpot, the laundry detergent and maybe the gum that makes you foam. She calls her husband to say that her blouse was missing. It had all three things on it. So it shrank in the sink. The glue wasn't used until after that. So Galaxy glue didn't make her shrink.

It was the perfume called "sex pot" that made her shrink. Several other people came into contact with the other 2 things you mentioned and it never affected them.

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father...prepare to die!

I seem to remember the cause was specifically more than one substance. Even though it's been decades, I saw this movie countless times in the 80's. I also remember laundry detergent being part of it.

It was an overall exposure to many different chemicals. I’m watching it now. From the beginning she is exposed to tons of things starting at the grocery store.

I’m watching this now and the hospital where she goes for all the test they concluded that she is shrinking from a combination of tap water, flu shot, the perfume, the glue, the solvent (glue), her bubble bath, talcum powder, shampoo, hair conditioner, setting lotion, hand lotion, mouthwash, hair spray, breath spray, feminine hygiene spray, deodorant, toothpaste, detergent, eye drops, nose drops, hair coloring, diet soda, birth control pills and smog. Set off an imbalance already in her system.

I typed all that as the movie played in captions.

LOL! I can't believe you typed that all out! I got excited somebody wrote something about this early 80's relic as I was just rewatching it today on DVD! My misspent youth in front of HBO is demonstrated by the fact I can recite the entire lyrics of "Galaxy Glue"!

Lol it’s one of my favorite movies. I’m thrilled to finally own it.

One reason I typed it out is for my own future reference. I’m very chemical sensitive and so are my kids. If I get around things like household cleaners I get sick. A massive migraine is the worst of it. So I now make my own cleaners and household products. I’ve thought of using this movie as a reference to the damages of chemicals. While the movie is a great comedy I wonder if it’s message was how much exposure we have each day to chemicals.

Chemical sensitivity? Say no more. If you haven't seen it yet, watch Todd Haynes' 1995 movie "Safe" starring Julianne Moore in a great early role for her.
