Am I the only one out there who thought this was actually a good movie?

Am I the only one out there who thought this was actually a good movie?

I actually thought this was a very good movie (of course, I never did read the book). I first saw this movie in 1981 when I was 12 or 13 (back in the days when they didn’t ask for ID’s to get into movies). Needless to say it scared the you know what out of me. The next time I remember seeing it was when I was a senior in college in the fall of 1990. My roommate and I wanted to rent “Halloween” to watch on Halloween, but all copies were checked out, so we rented this one instead. I was just as scared watching it then as I was the first time I saw it (and just as scared as she was … that was the first time she had seen it).

I just saw An American Haunting, and all it did was remind me how much I liked Ghost Story when I saw it all those years ago. It is still, hands-down, my favourite ghost movie of all time. Very haunting.

I saw this movie about 2 o'clock this morning. it was the first time I had ever seen it, so it did scare me a little bit, but it was a really great movie.

As from the numerous positive posts here Shannonm93 it seems you're not alone lol . I also think this movie was excellent too with an all-star retro cast and solid storyline ( IMPO they just don't make " ghost story movies " as good as this anymore ) . I'm glad that the cable channel RETROPLEX is showing this one currently . I haven't seen this movie since my early teen years when I used to rent this one on VHS . Thanks Shannonm93 for your subject post .

Although a bit dated, it still packs some authentic scares. Alice Krige is wonderful as Galli/Mobley and I can watch her say that perfect phrase over and over: "Dance with me you little toad!" Such VENOM!!!!

I loved the book, and when the movie was released, thought it was powerful! I do own it, and upon a couple of re-watches, it does have some major flaws, but I still enjoy it!

Anyone who can get bored five whole minutes into a movie isn't going to be satisfied by an innumerable number of films, most of which do not begin as if strapped to a rocket. That's not the fault of the film, that's the fault of a ridiculously short attention span. I'd advise her never to watch 2001; it starts even slower.

Although it missed much of what went on (the book was very in-depth), as a stand-alone, it was a decent ghost story. It had a few flaws, but overall, I enjoyed it.

I actually gave this a re-watch yesterday.

I do think it resorts to dead bodies a few too many times, though. In the original script, it only happened twice-it appeared to Jaffery as an eyeless being with a huge, gaping mouth ("I'd like to take a bite out of you" taking on extra meaning there) and at the end, it would appear as David Wanderly. Both of these got replaced with progressively dessicated corpses, which wasn't the best possible change.
