When Faber tells Lucy about his book and mentions that its a book on war, Lucy asks/says:
"But I thought war was meant to bring people together ...?"
"meant to" ? Odd thought, no ?

She could have worded it better, but it was a spur-of-the-moment statement. She meant that war tends to bring the diverse people of a country together for a common cause. share
