Yeah, Scared me too, but not at first.

I grew up in Brooklyn NY where going to the beach was a normal part of Summertime. When I was 12, me, my cousin, and little brother went to the afternoon matinee at the local theater to see some kid's film. After our movie was over, we snuck into another theater showing "Blood Beach", an R rated movie. (I don't even remember what the first movie was but I do remember seeing Blood Beach!)

Durring the movie, we laughed about how dumb the movie was and got a few chuckles out of it. But I wouldn't admit that it was bugging me, especially the scenes of people being suddenly sucked into the sand and unable to climb out to get away.

When Summer rolled around, I clearly remember the three of us standing on the boardwalk watching hundreds of people laying around Coney Island beach and none of us wanting to be ON the beach at all or admitting to eachother that we were afraid of getting sucked into the sand.... So we went to the community pool for the rest of that Summer. HA HA HA! I remember not giving the movie another though until I was actually standing in front of the beach and that's when it scared me. We got over it by the next Summer though.

Ironically 30 years later, talking to my cousin recently bought those memories right back and we had a good laugh about it. Even as grown ups with families of our own now, we still can't go to the beach without it crossing our minds.

We've both seen the movie again as adults and still can't believe that we let that movie scare us as kids and both still don't know what that creature was even after (like so many fans have done) pausing the video and repeatedly replaying it in slow motion!

The only movie that freaked me out more was "It's Alive" about the killer mutant baby. I saw it when I was about 7 or 8 and it made me afraid of the dark shadows under the furnature for a few years after because that's where the creature hid through most of the movie. That is until I saw the movie again years later and saw how cheesy the effects actually were and the fear evaperated away. Proof that confronting your fears can help you overcome them. LOL!

The trailer scared the hell out of me, I would have been 11 at that time. I remember having to go on a tubing trip down a creek around the same time, and was a little scared everytime I went over a sand bar. Now I show it to all my beach lifeguards whenever I can.

You were relieved at the end? Even though it is heavily implied that the creature is still alive and lurking under the sand? The ending was quite creepy...

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
