This was my first concert

Saw them in Lowell MA in the fall of 1981. I was 18 then and LOVED the Beatles. It was very fun and the music was great. Funny, I remember when they came out as the "late" Beatles, a.k.a Abbey Road timeframe, the guy who played Lennon walked out with a can of Coke on his way to the piano and raised it to his nostril and put a finger on the other one and smiled. It wasn't a real line of coke, but it was amusing. The crowd laughed. I didn't see another concert after that until the summer of '83 when CSN played at the Spencer Fairgrounds out West of Worcester MA. Funny story there too. On the way there on a hot Summer day my car started overheating on 495. I pulled over and added anti-freeze but it didn't help. The radiator was shot. We were even forced to crank the heat up in my 73 Nova to high in an attempt to take the heat off of the engine. By the time I got to the turnpike she was done. I nursed the car into the first rest area and called a taxi. We only had about $25 bucks between us and we spent almost all of it on a taxi to get to the show. We got there just in time. We got up to within about three rows of the stage. David Crosby was out of his mind messed up on stage. Just staring off into the distance. He was singing, but he was out of it. The only time he really moved was when he raised an arm up to point at a hot air balloon that was rising up behind a line of trees. We should have rolled all are joints before we got there, but we didn't. We were so crammed in that you couldn't roll, so one friend sat down indian style right there in front of the stage. Every so often his hand would come thrusting up with a joint in it and so the afternoon went. Wooden Ships, Guinevere, Woodstock, Carry On and Almost Cut My Hair. Each song demanded another joint. By the time the show was over we were stoned and dry. Didn't even have money to buy a bottle of beer or water. We tried thumbing but got no takers and had to walk 10-15 miles back to the rest stop. We found a joint along the side of the road on that walk and as we were out at that point, we smoked it. It was well after dark when we got to the rest area. I still to this day don't know how we found our way back. The car was cool so I topped her off with antifreeze and we headed home. Only to break down again about three miles down the road where the turnpike meets 495. Had to call friends at almost midnight to drive an hour one way to pick us up. New radiator cost and tow cost me about $125. Good memories.
