Well..Richard burton was the biggest star in the world and was hounded by paparazzi. Media and people all his life..in 78 he was certainly over it! So he might have come across as not the type to easily approach. Still better than today..extras are not even allowed to make eye contact with stars! Try and talk to a star on set automatic dismissle..you are only allowed to talk to a star if he talks to you first.
Part of his snootiness on the set can be attributed to staying in character of the strict priest. Great actors do this all the time to give a convincing performance when the camera is rolling, which is instrumental to their continuing success in the biz.
