Jackie Rogers, Jr.

I didn't see all the later SCTV episodes when they first came out, so Martin Short's Jackie Rogers, Jr. has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Is there some background to this character? Is he based on some real-life performer?

I gather there must have been a Jackie Rogers, Sr. too. I finally saw on YouTube an episode where Jackie is watching footage of himself in a control booth, which ends up involving a very embarrassing encounter with a polygraph machine. For all his talk about "the ladies", I guess Jackie didn't really have much success in that field. As I watched all his wriggling and grimacing, I wondered why SCTV never fixed him up on a blind date with Dr. Cheryl Kinsey. That would have been a pretty bizarre pairing.
