Charlie Hungerford, the most annoying old fart of all time

How does this guy manage to be a millionaire when all he does is toddle around the island holding a cigar and exchanging lame banter with a detective?

I've been watching some episodes of this and enjoying it, but I'm gonna give up now cause I noticed that he's in 85 out of the 87 episodes (oh my god).
