Olivia Newton-John's ankles

A friend of mine started working at Don Bluth's fledgling studio in early 1980. They were working on "The Secret of Nim" (although it still had the original book title at that point) when a call came in for a short animation piece to be done in a hurry to beef-up "Xanadu" and a good fee was offered. The studio shifted gears and halted work on the own feature for a few short weeks. Apparently the Bluth team noticed that there was sensitivity about her ankles not looking right, with them remaining covered by boots in most scenes and in the case of one tap dance sequence near the end by ribbons. You may have noticed that the animated bird form of Kira in the animated section wears some sort of fuzzy "warmers" around where the ankles would be if birds had them. This was an "in joke" slipped in by the Bluth team apparently known only to themselves.

Personally I never saw anything wrong with Olivia's ankles which were on full display in the dance number she has with Gene Kelly when he dreams of his days in a band in the 40's when she was a singer.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

I noticed in the Gene Kelly dance scene, she has "cankles" However, kinda nice to know that ONJ is PERFECT! Other than that, she is one of the most beautiful women ever IMO!

I guess they couldn't figure out a way to cover the ankles in the 40s dance with Kelly, but...couldn't they have put her in ankle straps (like at the very end in the tap dance number?). I've always noticed her ankles - maybe because she is very slender - it's a bit unexpected that her ankles are not.

I think ONJ was quite beautiful as well, but apparently Bluth and his fellow animators may have thought otherwise and that her appearance could be improved upon. Did you notice that in their animated version they took some inches off her waistline and added them to her bustline ? She magically has cleavage for the first and only time in the entire film. Her shoulder length hair extends below her waist and she is longer-waisted.

In the main dance scenes at the Rydell Ball in Grease you can see Olivia's leg suffer from being straight ups-n-downs. This is why I love IMDb the tittle amongst the tattle!!

An hour isn't an hour but a little bit of eternity in our hands

She's got great gams :)

Some at the Bluth studio also commented on how she looked like she had just hopped off riding a wide cow...implying that she was bow-legged.
