I actually love the entire score (I've listened to the soundtrack since seeing the movie on Oct. 7th 1980 at least once a week!), but if I had to pick my favs, they'd be:
1). I'M ALIVE. My younger sister died of cancer a week after I saw the movie at the age of 21. The song reinforces to me her fight to live and her lust for living life fully.
2). DANCIN'. I was a major TUBES fan before seeing the film, and I thought the mixture of musical genres was brilliant. What really makes me feel like a dork was that I didn't realize it was Olivia's vocals triple-doubled a-la-Andrew Sisters being dubbed in the song for at least several years!

And I don't care what anyone says (critics or public), I've always loved this film. The only bummer is that two of the talented supporting cast- Ren Woods (who sang "Aquarius" in the film version of the musical HAIR, and was incredible as "Dorothy" in the National Tour of THE WIZ) and Katie Hanley(who sang "By My Side" in the film version of the musical GODSPELL) didn't get a chance to display their vocal abilities. But it was great to see the awesome Sandahl Bergman get a chance to dance on-screen(she was a featured dancer in Bob Fosse's DANCIN').

MAGIC was the biggest hit in the U.S., and desevedly so, I believe.

Any of the ELO tracks for me, but mainly All Over The World.

On the Best of ELO - called 'All Over the World'
there's a cool version of Xanadu with Jeff Lynne singing.

I really enjoyed the movie and love the soundtrack. I am taking my Granddaughter to the play, Xanadu and look forward to her reaction.

This soundtrack contained some of ELO's best songs, IMO. All Over the World, I'm Alive, The Fall and the title song. I have heard that Xanadu is actually Jeff Lynne's favorite song. He does a rather doleful version of it on the ELO greatest hits compilation "All Over the World."

My favourites are Xanadu and Whenever You're Away From Me. That song shows that Gene Kelly hasn't lost his talent.

NO, Kelly Clarkson!! - The 40 Year-Old Virgin

Xanadu
You're Never Far Away From Me
I'm Alive

to those of you who put Xanadu, you sicken me. that song should've never been invented. do you know how hard it is to listen to the original "Xanadu" by Rush now?! i know they are different songs all together, but the fact that they took the title of one of the most amazing songs in rock music history for a musical movie song is just blasphemy. what's next? "Freebird" for High School Musical 3?

I'm sorry, but liking rock in no way makes me stupid. Rush is one of the best bands of all time - that is, of any genre. The amazing instrumentals backed up by Getty Lee's PHENOMENAL voice are only matched by those of Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Cream, without question. Notice another thing about this? Those were all rock bands. Go to this page, it's a list of the best bands of all time (all genres). Count the rock bands on there, maybe actually listen to a true rock song, then tell me that liking that kind of music makes me stupid.

i know this is 3 years after the fact of the post i'm responding to....but for someone who thinks Rush is one of the best bands of all time should know that it is GEDDY LEE and not Getty as in J Paul Getty and family.

I liked the end mix with Fool - and the Country song. Which by the way does anyone know if they ever released these anywhere but in the film and on the flip side of a 45. I have the soundtrack, but no longer own a turn table even if I could still get the 45. (Yes, I know I've dated myself. Child of the 80's)
Suspended in Time
Whenever You're Away From Me
and of course Xanadu.

I don't care if you're offended by the Rush reference. I like rock. I listen to Zeppelin, and Floyd, and Metallica, but I don't limit myself to one form of music.

I would have killed myself, but committing suicide in New Jersey is redundant.
