If this one was terrible why did they make a sequel?

Usually if a movie is not good they don't make a sequel. Right?

I couldn't say. This was actually the first Smokey and the Bandit movie I saw, since I was about 12 when it came out. I laughed hysterically on the Buford T. Justice scenes but bored by most of the rest of the movie.

And how is this movie bad? Since I'm in my 40's now, it's weird how Justice and the Bandit find each other at random places.

And Part 3 was just plain strange and silly!

I first saw this when I was a kid, and watched it for years. I loved it. Especially the desert game of chicken.

However, when you watch it later and analyze things... the movie is a big mess. For starts the entire plot is about The Enos boys wanting an elephant. They say it's strictly legit. 100% legal. So why the hell does Snowman need Bandit to run blocker in the trans-am? It should have been a casual drive to Florida, pick up the crate, and come back. But when they steal the elephant, it makes them thieves, so OK, cops will chase them on the way back. But none of them had knowledge that it would be an elephant to haul back, so it made no sense for Bandit to even have needed to be blocker, let alone a car at all.

The need for Frog to come back to get Bandit in shape? OK, if it's the only way Snowman could think of to get Bandit ready to drive again (which I don't see why you need to be in shape or run faster than a horse to drive a car in the first place is needed) but once she does her jon, why does she even need to be in the trip to Florida and back? (because she was in the first one, a familiar character... but it makes no real sense to have her there)

People also hate Bo's drunken, selfish, pig headed change. He was charming in the first, and became a drunken bum in the next etc... that I didn't care about, but many others hated it.

It was a success at the box office, it made money... even tho critics and reviews may have slammed it, well... you know... it still goes on today... why the hell was Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 made??$$$$

Back in the 80s if a movie got a sequel, then it was guaranteed to get a 3rd one to form a trilogy
