Stephen King is an absolute hypocrite.

King praises the Netflix adaptation of Shirley Jackson's novel, The Haunting of Hill House, and calls it brilliant. Is he right? Yes. Show's amazing. But that's besides the point. That show made no attempt to be accurate to the novel. None. It pretty much took dialogue, ideas and names from the Robert Weis movie and did its own thing.

So why did that show get away with it? Why does King judge a show on its own merits when its based on another book, but when a movie wants to take material from his book and do its own thing, he acts like a crime is committed, and makes no attempt to do the same?

He gave IT (2017) his seal of approval, and he's apparently done the same thing for IT: Chapter 2 (2019), but it's months from release. As long as that story is popular and successful (the first half is) and destroys the 1990 miniseries, that's fine with me.
