WHY do they all come here to THE SHINING IMDb board????????????????

What convinces so many Stephen King fans to post repeated negative critiques about Kubrick's masterpiece of horror on a message board dedicated to films AND NOT NOVELS? Don't any of them understand that we don't give a fvck what King thinks about this horror masterpiece? I don't frequent any forums that discuss King's written output and constantly slam his books because I like Kubrick's film much more. It's a waste of energy.

A film is not a novel.
A great director knows this.

They think they can still change the majority of opinions of most horror critics and websites. King expertly blew his chance with that abominable miniseries. And if that's the way the novel was supposed to appear, according to the author - then I read a different novel. It was a waste of effort.

King may have written some great books, but he never once understood the depth that Kubrick and Johnson created with their film. Amazing that there are still those who can't see that. If it was any other author than Stephen King, this fight would have ended decades ago.

Eyes wide shut, indeed.

Agreed. well said!!

I also might add. I don't get why someone would take the time to come to this forum just to trash the film and then have the nerve to call it discussion. There is a difference between discussion and trashing something. People need to learn the difference and stop trolling.

It's OK to like both the movie and the book.. but to get rather tired of all the Stephen King bashing going around here. It gets rather boring after a while.

reply

People who like the film more than the novel do not agree with King. And the first person to start bashing anyone was the author himself. Today many people agree that Kubrick's film is much better than a bloated, ridiculous novel about a psychotic father that we're all supposed to feel sorry for. It's a ridiculous premise. Kubrick's ideas were much more inventive. Kubrick turned Jack into the explosive boiler and invented the hedge maze because it actually could trap and kill you. Nothing else could stop Jack.

WHY DO YOU STILL FEEL SORRY FOR JACK TORRANCE? IS HE ANY MORE DESERVING OF PITY THAN ANY OTHER FAMOUS KILLER FROM HISTORY AND THEIR DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY? (written the way King would write. He's fond of screaming, remember?)

Kubrick stripped away all of the excess and created a film with only the necessary elements. Still waiting for anyone to make hedge animals into something terrifying. Obviously King could not.

He deserves any criticism he gets.

You're like a spider in a web in these IMDb forums, waiting to pounce and criticise the person without whom these bloody forums wouldn't exist because Kubrick would have went off and made something else!
Some day soon you'll realise how pathetic your anti-King stance is.

reply

Yes, I'm sure that Kubrick would have "went off" and improved another bad novel. Masterful directors tend to do that on a regular basis. Coppola did the same thing - do you also hate him, too?

Meanwhile, the rest of the planet doesn't even understand why King still hates Kubrick's film so much. Some day soon perhaps you'll realize that FACT.

But I doubt it.

I'm a Stephen King fan. Just don't come on here to say " oh this isn't anything like the book"
I understand this is for films. And I think this is a masterpiece

reply

no one cares what you think, post after post of drivel from you

I'm glad I'm not the only one who realized this. Eweland has gotten pretty condescending with other people lately. Sad really. If he wants to claim ownership over a discussion board about "The Shining," he should go and create his own. This is a public forum.

I'd go so far as to postulate that Eweland spends so much time defending the "psycho" aspects of this movie (and projecting it incorrectly onto the book) because it validates his own mental illness. A differing opinion of the movie is seen by him as a personal attack.

reply

Non sense. He just doesn't suffer fools, and especially King apologists.

And guess what: this isn't the place for that. He doesn't own the board. He just looks like an idiot. If he wants a place to chew out the fools he doesn't suffer, he is free to create his own board.

You're making yourself look pretty foolish as well.

reply

Foolish to who? Who cares what you think? Get back to the film (not the book for which there are enough threads) or jog on.

reply

Yeah, but we all have to suffer you and all the other sad Kubrick apologists. Since it is an OPEN CHAT thread, self-entitled retards have to get tolerated too.

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests. 🍪

reply

That's why we tolerate you, rascal. And your socks.

Still need to f!ck off, though. You've made your stupid opinions known here, you are only here to abuse people.

Now here comes the sock account accusation. How typical! You may as well throw in the troll one while you are at it. And yes, your opinions are stupid, that is why they are easy to abuse. Don't like what you are hearing, tough tamales! This is not a fan site as already discussed; but you are only half aware of that, just like you go around half asleep throughout most of your life. 

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests. 🍪

reply

Indeed, I ask myself the same questions.

I notice one idiot took the trouble of posting "the book is better" on a movie website. Go figure.

reply

Kubrick would have laughed his ass off at these fools. They have never heard of the term "off-topic" before. Because when you blather non-stop about the novel on a film's message board, you really ARE in the wrong place for it.

We come here to discuss Kubrick's film - not how there weren't any ludicrous hedge monsters in one single frame. But hey, whatever. Get your literary rocks off by proving how stupid you are to the world!

MASTERPIECE!?

HA!

reply

Yeah? And what are you? A nothing.

reply

Because the films source material came from the novel, that's why.
