Is this Better or wosier than RAN?

I think the best one is Yojimbo. It is very cynical though, unlike I think most of Kurosawa's films. Yojimbo is just the perfect send-up of the whole concept of heroism. And has good plot and acting and etc, as you would expect from K's films. And some quite funny bits.

I'm not sure, maybe Ran is a little better than Kagemusha. I sort of liked kagemusha better, when I first saw the films, because it is NOT based on Shakespeare - nothing wrong with the bard, it's just then you know roughly what is about to happen in the plot. Or would if you know King Lear.

I like the version of Macbeth he made too, what is it called?

The English title is "Throne of Blood".

I personally found this movie to be more appealing than Ran. I still don't know why, I felt Ran was slow in a lot of places, and while I noticed it here, too, I was far more lenient. I think that I just found Nobukado and the Thief's characters to be more appealing.

it's worsier

I liked Kagemusha better. I felt more empathy towards the main character, and the colors were more natural (the colors in Ran looked garish to me.)

Kagemusha is slower, though. Though you could call it "contemplative." ;)

Bad Sleep Well is Kurosawa's best :)

I liked it alot more than Ran, but they're both very good, watch them both by all means

I agree with those who say that the characters are more enjoyable than in Ran, and the colors are much prettier too.

I just saw Kagemusha yesterday on the big screen for the first time since high school, and loved it. Ran is good, but I've always loved the complex theme of identity in Kagemusha.

Is something that that is worsier, worse than something worse? So is the worsier thing the worst, or is there worse yet to come???

Wonder if Lucas kinda sees his movies as Kurosawa in space?

The question is: is it worsier or wosier?

reply

Kurosawa said Kagemusha was just a dress rehersal for Ran.

reply

two different stories i think kagemusha is a little bit more interesting because of the premise of the story.

It's true Kurosawa said this. Ran was the movie he held in his heart for many years. They are both masterpieces. I prefer Kagemusha, which seems to me more visually stunning, but I couldn't say either one was truly better. Is Michelangelo's Pieta better than his David? Does the question make any sense?

After reading these posts, I'm feeling woozier than I was a few minutes ago.
