did anyone feel sorry for Bob & The Good Ole Boys?

Did anyone feel sorry for Bob & The Good Ole Boys when they've gotten arrested by the police and when the police officers crashed into Bob's truck as well? I personally did and I didn't think they've needed to make Bob & The Good Ole Boys as the villains, I thought Bob had every right to be upset with the Blues Brothers and the band and the Good Ol' Boys never had any reason to get angry with the Blues Brothers.

They arrived just as the bar was closing and expect to start playing then?

I felt sorry for Bob. All he wanted was the money for his beer. I didn't give a damn what happened to the Good Ole Boys. Though we don't necessarily have any evidence, I'll bet they were racists on top of being rednecks.

I don't feel all that sorry for Bob, unless he truly is that clueless. Bar owners all know that comping musicians their drinks is pretty standard, but it is entirely their decision and they need to be upfront about it with the band. If I were a band member, I would have thought the owner was trying to scam us if he threw that kind of bar tab at us at the last moment.

And their bar tab was outrageous. I believe Bob said it was $300-something. In 1980, an average beer would probably be about a $1? There are 10 members of the band, so I'm not sure how they drank over 30 beers each at $1, or at $1.50 each, over 20 beers each. Maybe that's part of the joke that's lost with inflation.

reply

I felt the same way about the beer tab; no way they could've drunk that much without falling all over each other by then end of the show. I think Bob was just a scammer who was "out of his element Donny"

Anti-semites, certainly. Look at the way Tucker McElroy sneers when he says "Stein" to Jake right before he threatens to remove his teeth.

But Bob was an *beep* too. He should have made it clear to the band upfront that they weren't getting free bears. My presumption was that this was a scam he worked on bands as often as he could get away with it.

Making generalizations, using racial slurs against a group of people? Sounds like the only racist is you! LOL!

reply

Exactly! Watching it again now and I always had a problem with that.

Thats because the Blues Brothers arrived very early to the bar and Bob thought they were The Good Ole Boys

reply

That still doesn't work. Just because the Blues Bros. arrived very early and fooled Bob, the Good Ole Boys still arrived for the gig as the bar was closing. Had they arrived on time to play, there would have been a confrontation with Jake and Elwood, but they were late, with no explanation.

I don't feel sorry for them at all. If you're contracted to play some place, you show up on time, an hour before you're scheduled to play, so you can set up and get your sound tested.

As far as Bob wanting to charge the band for their drinks, he was ripping them off twice. Usually a bar will comp the band their drinks, or else let them know in advance that they'll be charged. And the amount he charged them was outrageous. Didn't pay them for the gig, took it out of their bar bill that he didn't make clear at the outset. A real snake.

reply

...and they show up in a fully loaded Winnebago, all dressed to the nines...yet we learn their payment for the night is $200????

reply

And the night was over and the place was almost empty when they showed up.

I don't think Bob or the Good Ole Boys have any real right to be sore at the Blues Brothers. So Bob was down a hundred bucks for the band's bar tab, but how much extra beer did he sell to the audience because they were enjoying the concert so much? If the Blues Brothers hadn't shown up to play, he wouldn't have had a band at all, that night.

And maybe the Blues Brothers DID usurp the Good Ole Boys' gig, but they couldn't have had any reasonable expectation of playing OR getting paid, because they didn't even show up until after closing time.

No way did either of them have a complaint worthy of trying to chase down Jake and Elwood and KILL them.

Bob got a great concert out of the deal, and the Blues Brothers saved the Good Ole Boys' bacon by filling in for them. They totally overreacted, and they paid for it.

Not me.

reply

Nope. They were chasing after the BBs and took a shot at them with a gun.
So I'm OK with their chase being interrupted by crashing into the cops.

What I don't understand was why Jake felt like BSing them.

Damn I'm good.

reply

No. no sympathy for them whatsoever.

reply

No.

He got an amazing band to play at his club and was a cheapskate regarding the comps. Especoially if he is charging full price.

I was surprised that the first beers served to Jake and Ellwood were imports. That doesn't seem right.

reply

I do wish the Good Ole Boys would've just realized it was their fault they've showed up late and learn something from it instead of taking their anger out on the Blues Brothers.
