Sexual Instinct and Other Problems

The only instinct a human is born with is the ability to suckle. Everything else is learned. Our two characters have reached sexual maturity. The girl is ovulating and the male is having wet dreams and spontaneous erections. So what do they do about it? At this point, they couldn’t have a clue about what goes where. There weren’t any other mammals on the island for guidance and ideas, although they did show the two turtles having sex. Joseph Heller addressed this in Catch 22 when the young married couple came to the doctor for help in getting the wife pregnant. The doctor discovered that the husband was putting it in the wrong orifice. Miraculously, our characters somehow discover intercourse in the “Missionary Position.” In most primitive cultures, intercourse was conducted from the rear like animals to the horror of the missionaries – hence the creation of the “Missionary Method.” Well she has the baby. What they do with the umbilical cord and afterbirth is not addressed. Fortunately, if nothing is done, the cord will dry up and fall off in three days. I guess that is what happened here although the movie did not deal with it. Then we have nursing the baby. The girl’s breasts would be hurting and milk leaking out. They might come up with the idea of nursing the baby but it happens accidentally in the movie.

They weren't born in the wild. They were both old enough to remember nursing.

Actually, the real problem with this movie is that, without any adults around to shame them, they do absolutely nothing sexual until it suddenly busts out and they do everything.

In reality they would have played doctor and 'you-show-me-yours-and-I'll-show-you-mine' games from early childhood on, until it just gradually evolved into love-making. Richard wouldn't've been hiding behind a rock; he'd've proudly showed her what he'd discovered and let her try it too. They probably would've discovered intercourse itself at the age of eleven or so... at which point you have no movie.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler.

Never thought of it that way, but you are so right. But now that I think about it, they were raised in the Victorian times, people were very hush hush about anything sexual back then. They were probably taught from an early age about modesty.

I'm tempted to report this post.

i reported you, goodbye...

Oh pls, it's only a movie. If the movie had happened the way it really should happen in real life, it would have been a bore. Movies are made up storylines to keep us entertained and to escape realism. I love the movie. I think it was a great script and very different from any movie I've seen recently.

What are you, an alien? "There weren't any other mammals on the island for guidance"? Really? How do other mammals discover how to procreate? Where does their guidance come from? I think humans have been figuring out procreation, birth, nursing and all of it for millennia without guidance. Give me a break with this. Really dumb post.

Animals ability to procreate is instinctual. What do you think they do genius, go to sexual education classes?

Well yeah - and what would have happened if Richard was GAY? If that had been me on that island, I would never have had the desire to go after that thing between Em's legs. Bleah! I would probably just keep masturbating and think of hot (butt) pirates. "Sorry there Em..."

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"
