Work in France...Possible Spoiler

She could not work in Nevada because of her husband, kicked out of Atlantic City for the same reason; did she think that Monte Carlo would be a cinch to get work? They are more strict because of the High Profile Business from all over the world. She was a chasing a dream and did not care who got in her way. she left her sister behind and took drug money from Burt Lancester's character, in a stolen car that belonged to drug dealers. The cops were bound to have a look out for their car. It is a movie, a good one and one that you have to realize that truth and movie reality are not one and the same. This movie did deserve all the praise it got. And I watch it every time I can.

the police in monte carlo are very rigid on what white trash they let in, yet alone work there.

I don't think she was heading for Monte Carlo. The way she laughs at the radio when the French bit comes on left me with the impression that she realized how absurd the whole idea was. But she was getting away from Atlantic City....and not going back to Canada.

She took half of Burt Lancaster’s money. I don’t know how much money she got from there, but maybe that money is enough to get her started / situated comfortably in France?

She was already dreaming of going to France for a while, so she probably has ideas about work and living arrangements; perhaps she knows someone there?

I do think it’s obvious that she is going to France. She makes clear throughout the film that France / Monte Carlo is her dream. And now that she is linked to a crime, it makes sense for her to leave the country.
