Would you try out the sensory deprivation tank?

I certainly would! Becoming a monkey wouldn't stop me. Would anyone else on this board try one of these puppies, or have they ever?

Hell yeah:)

I was in one not long after this movie came out. I was probably 12 or 13 (my parents were pretty cool looking back on it). I don't know what the place was called, but it was in a really random place to have a dep tank. There was a free-trial coupon in the paper, my Mom saw it and asked if I wanted to go - so yeah, I went. I'm not completely sure that it wasn't Dr. Phil's place (yes, THAT Dr. Phil), because he had a spa-thingy in this town. I might have to try to find out if he had it or who did. I won't be long on the experience, but it was trippy and relaxing.

I've had similar experiences floating in my Dad's very warm swimming pool at night with a snorkel. During the first one, after I "came out of it", I decided to see how long I could hold my breath, so I swam to the bottom of the pool. I don't know how long I was down there, but I know I haven't held my breath that long before or since. Oh, and I hallucinated I was a big, blue fish. I dreamt of that same fish years later in college.

Yes. To the people asking where they're located...well if you live in southern California, there's one in Santa Monica. http://www.floatlab.com/

I actually *just* tried one for the first time today through ifloat in westport ct. It was truly amazing. They're more like floor-to-ceiling shower/baths then a coffin or tank now.

the weirdest thing about it, was I was laying there in the dark and silence, and thinking to myself, "this is dumb and boring, how the hell can anyone just lay here for an hour?" then all of a sudden I jolted up. I knew a chunk of time had passed between the jolt and my last thoughts, but I didn't know how much time or what had happened during. I just knew it didn't feel like sleep.

I freaked out a bit, got out, and checked my phone---the full hour had past. Gone in an instant.

Anyway, I got over that freaked-out feeling, and now feel amazing. would definitely do it again!

and for anyone in CT: www.ifloatspa.com

I don't think I'd try it now but maybe in 10-20 years I'd be ready for it.

I'd try it. Supposedly, with enough practice, just meditation with out the tank will get you similar results. Maybe interrupted sleep, too. Mental techniques can be employed when you're half awake to induce hallucinations, out-of-body, or lucid dreaming.

I went into a sensory deprivation tank a few times. It was a relaxing experience (didn't use drugs with it, though). The first time I was a bit nervous, floating naked in heavy water when they closed the lid on me, but I had radiocontact in case of problems. Second time it was just confortable all the way.

I'll pass, thank you. I have a hard enough time dealing with stuff that's in my head when it's not sensory-deprived.

reply

I would love to do it while on psilocybin mushrooms. The only freaky thing is not knowing how much time has passed when in there. If there's radio-contact, then it would be alright. I would just fear of a malfunction or something that prevented me from exiting :P

Oh sweet allah yes! Without such a large dose of hallucinogens though, a few but i don't wanna lose my mind while im in there :(

reply

would like to try it yes.

Only if I could find a sensory deprivation tank like the one in the movie at the start of the film. I'd like to float vertically instead of horizontally.

sensory depravation tank + direct internet acess (see - virtual reality) = perfection.
