children of the full moon... best bit!!

"I'm a lawyer, i'm a logical man!"...

declares Christopher Cazenove as he's about to climb out of a window and shin down the drain-pipe in pursuit of the wolflike creature his wife has just seen out of their upstairs window...

gotta love it!, wonderful stuff.

Plus Celia Gregory just radiates beauty and warmth, as she does in everything i've seen her in, it's so sad that she died not long ago at far too young an age.

No for me the best bit is near the end when he meets the woodsman with the Axe
Genuinely scary

reply

mmm yeah... it is scary... but you could see it coming, and plus I think he could of made a slightly better attempt at escape, but he was probably too scared and it was the end of the programme anyway!...

I still prefer him jumping out of the window though...

COTFM is actually turning out to be one of my favourites of the series, in my top 5, maybe even top 3... I have to admit that this is mainly down to the beautiful Celia Gregory.

When I first saw this as a child of about 8 (what were parents thinking? Mind you it's given us memories of what good tv is) I looked away when she opened th curtains. It was years later when I finally saw it.

I did this with the amicus film I think it was Tales from the Crypt when the neighbours forced Peter Cushing to kill himself. The dead PC character came back & wrote a valentine poem in blood. Another character opened the bottom of the letter & I looked away! It was about 25 years later that I saw it was the cruel bloke's heart. it had niggled me for years which is why I'm so glad some of this awesome telly is now on dvd (including Beasts & Armchair thriller-remember the red face?)!

When I originally watched this TV series back in 1980,when I was kid,I remember being a tad dissapointed that it didn't feature any of the traditional monster content,an element which was familiar and popular with Hammer's previous gothic films of the 60s and 70s.There was no Dracula, vampires or Frankenstein's monster',they would have ideally fitted into a contemporary setting.
Of course this spine chilling episode is the exception, which is why it sticks in my mind for giving me sleepless nights.
Yep,the scene towards the climax with Tom and the woodcutter still gives me the shudders,as in the earlier scene when Sarah opens the bedroom curtains.
Viewing it now,you would think that they could have at least gave the actor some fangs to wear, just to make it a bit more scarily realistic.
And I just adore the superb, slightly understated sinister performance from the legendary Diana Dors as Mrs Ardoy. Not as benevolent and sweet as she initially appears to be,standing in the doorway smiling with her little werewolf brood as Sarah tries to fend off the monster is quite unsettling.

**SPOILER ALERT**

It seems this episode is one of a string of dismal stories where the good protagonists dies and evil triumphs.

This episode sh!ts me up something chronic. In fact, a lot of these do. It's only the one with the witch and the one starring Denholm Elliott that I can actually say I like. Husband just finished watching COTFM for the third time so I decided it was a good time to post my letters!

Had a nightmare about this episode the other night! Eep! Loved Diana Dors but this was so freaky!

I like the ending when the oldest girl, Eloise, steps away from from the other children crowding around their new baby brother and silently covers Sarah's face with the sheet and the wreath. She almost seems compassionate, as though her human side has come out for a moment.

Eloise was respectful in covering the dead body of her half brother but the children didn't need her. Mrs Ardoy was the only mother the children needed.

I loved this episode. One of the best so far.

I was chuckling during the car speeding out of control towards the beginning, where he tells her to assume the crash position, but neither one of them has their (3 point!) seat belt on. Then when the car inexplicably resumes normal behavior, he doesn't immediately pull over to figure out what went wrong, but just resumes driving as if it were perfectly safe to be in that car again. ---It wants no straps. - Karlhttp://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000024/nest/158601447
