I really do consider both of them Chapter 1 & 2 of the same great film. Rocky 2 continued the same 'low budget' feel as the first one. In fact I consider the 2nd fight to be done even better than the first fight and the ending "Yo Adrian I did it" is beyond iconic.
Amazing all the accolodes go to the first film but the 2nd one is equally great.
i agree, the sequel kept the same essence of the first. great movies.

The first two movies have the same look and feel, and Stallone is playing the same character in both of them.
Parts III and IV have the same look and feel as each other, but it's totally different than the first two. Stallone is playing the same character in those two movies as well, but it's a different character than in the first two movies.
In Part V Stallone tried to play the same character as he did in the first two movies, but he had apparently forgotten how to do it, and it came off as a parody of the original Rocky character.

shareI really love the first two Rocky films. They are just a pick me up movie where if you feel down, you can watch one of those movies and feel inspire to keep moving forward in life. I do agree that the first two films could just be a one film. I just love it!

shareI will also add rocky III to it as it completes a story arc where Rocky once again reinvents his game. He goes to basic again. He proves he can win without Mickey. He is emotionally challenged as he lost his mentor and also feels weak. Mickey says all the opponents were picked weaker so now Rocky has to face a challenge where he gets his self confidence back. He becomes a legend in this. For me the great Rocky narration end here. Part 4 was just another episodic match against Russia.
