Different Take on the Movie-Serious Movie Spoilers

I know this movie was made so that the mutated bear is Katahdin, but let's suppose that the bear isn't. We see what it is supposed to be in the movie's art poster, two characters describe it as "larger than a dragon with the eyes of a cat" and "a part of all of creation. But what we are shown is clearly not how Katahdin has been described. We never see what killed the rescuers. My take on this much maligned movie is that we need to view it differently than what it was promoted to be. The bears are not Katahdin. We never get to see it. But it is still out there.
This movie really needs a sequel that picks up at the ending where either the bear is killed or a few seconds/minutes later a brief glimpse of Katahdin is shown and as the movie goes on we see it more and more. The writers could have it that the bear(mate of the mother in the last film) is eventually found to not be the only thing killing people and wildlife.
