What was your funniest scene?

I watched this film for the first time yesterday because my Scottish girlfriend made me, Lady Macbeth Stylee! sic (sic)

The whole undertone of how religion is particularly needless for all apart from the pathetically needy is quite quaint. But a particular scene made me chortle was that in the ampitheatre.

First there was the whole hatred between the PFJ and the JPF which had me pissing my pants. Largely because I'm a very disilussioned lefty thanks to groups like this. But during that very scene, there was the 'fight' between the Gladiator and the Slave which had me laughing for ages.

So what was your funniest scene?

(Brownie points for the smart arse who figures out why my initial sentance is so funny)

reply

As a fellow leftie, I always thought the "We will fight for your RIGHT to have babies!" scene is the most perfect satire of leftist politics ever written. And they also brought us "Help, help, I'm being oppressed!", oh man! I'm laughing as I type!

Then, there was the "Latin grammar lesson" scene...

reply

As a note of clarification, "Help, help, I'm being repressed!" is from MP: The Holy Grail. Still a funny scene though, just not in TLOB.

My personal favorite from this movie was when Pilate asks who Brian's father was, and he tells him "Naughteous Maximus", and the centurions start laughing. Then we find out Pilate "has a very gweat fwiend in Wome named Bigus Dickus" who has a wife named "Incontinentia Buttocks", while the centurions trying to keep frm laughing . Hysterical.

reply

Definitely the Latin grammar lesson. As a victim, ahem, student, of Latin it brought back memories of how asinine Latin grammar can be.

reply

The whole film is hysterically funny, especially the scene where Pontious Pilate is deliberately going on and on to his soldiers, about his good friend, Biggus Dickus, and his wife, Incontinentia Buttocks, and the soldiers are trying ever so hard not to laugh.

reply

"You're ALL different"

"Yes, we are all different!"

"I'm not"

reply

The most perfect and funny scene in the movie is Cleese as the Centurian "watch it you" then tosses off "got a few crosses left" so perfectly. If you met someone who had never even heard of MP but you had a few seconds to explain John Cleese that scene would do it.

reply

Crucifiction? Yes, good.

reply

Coordinator: Crucifixion?

Mr. Cheeky: Er, no, freedom actually.

Coordinator: What?

Mr. Cheeky: Yeah, they said I hadn't done anything and I could go and live on an island somewhere.

Coordinator: Oh I say, that's very nice. Well, off you go then.

Mr. Cheeky: No, I'm just pulling your leg, it's crucifixion really.

Coordinator: [laughing] Oh yes, very good. Well...

Mr. Cheeky: Yes I know, out of the door, one cross each, line on the left.

reply

It has too be

When Jesus drops the cross and the kind samaratan Or Simon pick it up and says 'let me help you' While Jeasus LEGS IT! and simon gets stuck with the cross. LOL

reply

The Biggus Dickus scene. And it's even funnier when you know that the actors who plays the guards actually is trying not tpo laugh fopr real. Mike improvised all sorts of names for the wife every shoot they did and they where told that whatever Mike said, they shouldn't laugh

reply

Absolutely. That was also my favorite scene, the Biggus Dickus one... it had me laughing uncontrollably forever, keeping everybody in the house awake in the middle of the night :D

reply

YES! definitely Biggus Dickus - "His wife is called Incontinentia .... Buttocks."
(snigger snigger)

brilliant how PP (Palin) does not seem to know why "biggus dickus" gathers laughter....

[i bet PP's middle names are Woger and Wodewick]

Wasn't Jesus dropped the cross, he only appeared at the start.

reply

That wasn't Jesus. Jesus appeared only twice; at the top of the hill and in the stable next door.

reply

The development scequence, in which Brian's cover-preachings develop into a full-blown religion in a matter of minutes.

"Cast off the Shoes, follow the Gord!"

reply

I love that sequence too, showing the birth of a new religion, splitting into multiple factions arguing about how to interpret 'signs' & 'messages' within minutes.

Also "Because it's WRITTEN. That's why."

reply

The whole movie is a classic, too hard to pick

Faves that stand out though:

-Whilst he's on the cross
-the ampitheatre bit
-the birth at the beginning
-the stone him!

every scene, from the begining, when poor mrs. cohen is disturbed by the misguided wisemen to that memorable ending, is fantastic!
terry gilliam's animation is brilliant, the jpf's feud with all the other parties, theirpolitics and ways (so accurate, so true!), pontius and biggus this picture absolutely dethroned all my favoite movies. bravo pythons, bravo!

you tried your best, and you failed miserably. the lesson is: never try.

reply

Oh that would have to be when Brian throws open his window and we see his willie, and then when his little tart is standing up to his mother.

"It's as if God created the Devil...and gave him...JAWS"

reply

Too many but...

"Blessed are the cheesemakers"
"You must think for yourselves"
"Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah!"
"The gourd, no, the sandal"
"Crucifixion? Good, line to the left, one cross each

and of course the legendary...
"Always look on the bright side of life" song, when I, literally, fell off my seat in the theatre and was on my knees laughing and gasping for air. One of the funniest cinema moments of all time, IMO, esp. from the perspective of a 12 year Catholic School survivor.

"If you're laughing, I defy you to be afraid"

reply

These may not be exact, but I think they're close.

"He's been taken up!!!.....there he is."

"Before you join us Brian, you must know that there's not a one of us here who wouldn't gladly give his life to be rid of the Romans."
"uh, well, one."
"? Oh yeah, there's one."

reply

"Bickus Dickus" et. al.
Without a doubt, this is the funniest moment I have EVER had in a cinema. I laughed so hard I actually cried, and fell out of my seat onto the ground in the movie theater... it's never happened to me before or since in 50 years of watching movies. I actually lost total control.

reply

The "Alway's Look on the Bright Side of Life" song, was in my head for WEEKS after i saw this movie! kept wisling and singing it, it anoyed my friends so much. Anyway my favorite scene would have to be the Juniper berries scence, "dam dam dam dam dam!" "those are my juniper berries!" while he is naked! HAHAHA!

Random thug #47:What are you?!
Dorian Grey:I'm complicated....

reply

I haven't spoken for 18 years....

It's a miracle!

And he hurt my foot!
