"It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day; the sky was clear and serene, and nature wore that rich and golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance. The forests had put on their sober brown and yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind had been nipped by the frosts into brilliant dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet."

"As Ichabod jogged slowly on his way, his eye, ever open to every symptom of culinary abundance, ranged with delight over the treasures of jolly autumn. On all sides he beheld vast store of apples; some hanging in oppressive opulence on the trees; some gathered into baskets and barrels for the market; others heaped up in rich piles for the cider-press. Farther on he beheld great fields of Indian corn,"

yep, autumn.

I believe it spans a great deal of time, not simply Autumn, erego, Winter would be included.

Signature? Huh? Oh damn...

I saw this movie many years ago and loved it. Where did you get a copy and how much did it cost?

reply

I love this movie too. It needs a DVD release (along with all of the other Schick Sunn Classics Illustrated movies). I own it on VHS, but a DVD would be better. I was able to get it when VHS was still the "thing". Anywho, the only place to really get it at a decent price is e bay.

of the copies were going for over 40 dollars!

It is never confirmed that the events in this particular version take place in the Fall. There is mention by fritz of the "Winter Ball".

The snow does make this version seem more like a Christmas ghost story. The tale itself has become a Halloween tradition and I must admit I would have preferred a more autumnal setting.
