Why were they carrying luggage

I watched this movie a couple of years back and I had to question why Skipper and Gilligan were carrying luggage. And why was Gilligan still subservient to Skipper. Early in the movie Howell announced he was turning the island into a resort and they would all be equal partners. Which would mean that all seven of them would be owners. Owners would not carry guest luggage that is what employees do. Plus Gilligan and Skipper were not young men and I am sure Howell would not want to pay medical bills if they got hurt.
And since Skipper and Gilligan were equal owners Gilligan was no longer Skipper's employee. By all rights when Skipper told him to do anything he could have told him to get lost.

You're trying to make sense of Gilligan's Island?

The series was silly, the movies were silly.

reply

I was bored that day.

reply

Seeing as how both men were Navymen... They wouldnt just sit on their ass and twittles their thumbs.

Gillian respects Skipper... Rank dissappeared the day they got stuck on the island. A sea captain has no real rank on dry land, just in the water.

I'm bored too by the way, but my dad was a navyman and has the same obsession with being busy.

Yeah i guess I could not see eitheir of them as desk jockeys making sure the island had enough toilet paper for the guests, or seeing what celebrities they can wrangle, or sitting in board room meetings discussing advertising. They were both more hands on.

That I agree on. They were more like workers than pen-pushers. They'd rather be busy than staying behind a desk.

What is so silly about island survival?

reply

Because they were so used to it. They carried dozens of suitcases and trunks for every passenger who took a 3 hour cruise with them.
