did spielberg/Hooper rip off Cronenberg in Poltergeist?

I couldn't help but notice that little Carrie Ann in Poltergeist looks exactly like Candy in the Brood. Also, the theme is remarkably similar- that one person can release psychic energy that acts out the subconscious (or conscious) desires on those closest to him/her. (OF course, the Poltergeist in Poltergeist wasn't a "real" Poltergeist ie- a psychic projection of a resident of the house, but whatever)

Have a look at Don't look Now by Nicholas Roeg, there seems to be a trend in the way that young girls have been portrayed in horror films to be honest.

Good movie, if a bit slow paced for my taste.
Also reminded me of Let the Right One In, by Tomas Alfredson (avoid the remake).

Yes, I always thought that Candy resembled Carol Anne from "Poltergeist".
