Bingley

Of the 3 Bingleys (1980, 1995, 2005) I liked this one (1980) the best! He was always such a minor character for me personally, but I found the 1980 Bingley so adorable and sympathetic! I just wanted to hug him.

He's the only Bingley you can actually imagine Darcy being friends with. The only one someone as fastidious and clever as Darcy would care about and respect enough to tolerate Caroline for Charles's sake and it's not surprising that Darcy would think this Bingley would make a good husband for his sister.

IMO, one of the problems with the other adaptations is that to make Darcy seem like the super attractive Alpha male, the Bingley's made to seem like a wimp or an idiot. The '40 and '05 adaptations are guilty of this, sadly.

I lost my job
What? Why?... Not the Phantom Menace?

Same here. Osgood Bullock is far and away my favorite Bingley. This adaptation does a great job with the secondary characters.

I agree wholeheartedly! This Bingley is actually handsome. Though he's a good enough actor, I did not particularly like the one in Ehle/Firth version. He was a bit annoying to me.
This version (1980) has several other actors that I prefer in their characters as well. This has the best mother, though mom in Keira Knightly's version is good too. Most seem to make her into a clown. This is the best Jane. Sabina is absolutely gorgeous!! I would have loved to see her in other roles. Elizabeth is supposed to be second in beauty to Jane, not more beautiful than. Though I enjoyed all the Elizabeths, Garvey is the best Elizabeth. Sweeter than Ehle's version, yet mischievious too. I liked this Charlotte the best as well as Mary, Lady Catherine, and Wickham. I like the different fathers and all the Mr. Collinses equally. I prefer Firth as Darcy, and his version's Col. Fitzwilliam

..and he fills his breeches very well too!

Sabina Franklyn is in one of the Miss Marple films from the 1980s, The Moving Finger. She is absolutely lovely.

I also watched her in Covington Cross, a short-lived swashbuckling Tv series. Again, she looked gorgeous and was a joy to watch.

While I find this Bingley extremely unattractive, he really was the only one of the three who was believable in the role. The other two versions I've struggled to understand why Jane was so deeply in love with such an idiot.
