Theme Tune.

I loved Monkey, I am 30 now, and every one my age group always remembers this programme with revered affection. I tried to get my 17 year old brother to watch it, and the blasphemous sod said it was crap!!!

Anyways, can someone help me with the theme tune, as i think I filled in the lines I didnt know myself as a child. This is how I remember it, if someone could correct me, I'll be yer bestest friend.....

Thought laid an egg on a mountain top,
Monkey is funky, he'll never stop
he knew all the magic, under the sun,
well he's the god of everyone,
and thats someone!

Cheerzies in advance.....

Close!! - the lyrics are as follows...

Born from an egg on a mountain top
The punkiest monkey that ever popped
He knew every magic trick under the sun
To tease the Gods
And everyone and have some fun
Monkey magic, Monkey magic (repeat 4 times)
What a cocky saucy monkey this one is
All the Gods were angered
And they punished him
Until he was saved by a kindly priest
And that was the start
Of their pilgrimage west
Monkey magic, Monkey magic (repeat 4 times)
With a little bit of monkey magic
There'll be fireworks tonight
With a little bit of monkey magic
Every thing will be all right
Born from an egg on a mountain top
The punkiest monkey that ever popped
He knew every magic trick under the sun
To tease the Gods
And everyone and have some fun
Monkey magic, Monkey magic (repeat 4 times)

- Oh what a joy this tune is, hehe.

Your brother didn't like it? My brother is 17 and I'm 14 and we love Monkey. I guess because it had repeats in Australia in the 90s. I love Monkey its the best show ever. I want to buy the soundtrack for Monkey if its available!

I want to get the soundtrack too. I remember the last time they showed it on ABC in Australia, when Buddha made Monkey stab a child. It got taken off after that. Damn complaining parents.

Hey there!

The theme tune, as with most of the prog-rockish incidental music on Monkey Magic, is performed by a Japanese group called "GODEIGO" You could probably buy a best of CD of theirs and get the theme tune plus Gandara (my favorite song) and Holy and Bright.

Also, if you go to a Japanese karaoke house, you can sing it! There always is Monkey Magic and other Godeigo songs.

Godiego were kind of like a Japanese beatles, and wrote some excellent pop tunes.

I assume that Holy and bright wasd the name of the newer soing during the credits. It sucked like a song we had to see at choir at my catholic primary school

reply

I prefered the song at the end of the show actually.

'A long time ago,
when men were all apes
there was a land of the free...etc etc'

reply

Yeah, I loved that some more too!! As a little kid, I thought that song was kinda sad...

What are the lyrics to THAT one??

"HOLY AND BRIGHT"? What song was that?

reply

Holy and Bright, at a guess, is the tune they played when ever anything sad happened, like the time Monkey was told to clear off for killing that old woman (actually a devil in disguise). Its a kind of mournful ballad.

By the way, I've had a go at writing down the words to the song 'Gandara'...maybe someone can correct any mistakes.

A long time ago
when men were all apes
there was a land of the free
fantasy and dreams were its own torch wells
and goodness and love were real
Each man desires to reach gandara,
his very own utopia,
and for the striving and the seeking soul,
they will find Gandar-ar-a

In Gandara, Gandara
they said it was in India
Gandara, Gandara
the place of light Gandara
Gandara, Gandara
they said it was in India
Gandara, Gandara
the place of light Gandaraaaaaa

reply

I think that this is accurate lyrics of the song.

GANDHARA

A long time ago when men were all babes
There was a land of the free
Fantasy and dreams
Were its untouched wealth
And goodness and love were real

*1 Each man desires to reach Gandhara
His very own Utopia
In the striving , In the seeking soul
Man can see Gandhara

*2 In Gandgara , Gandhara
They say it was in India
Gandhara , Gandhara
The place of light Gandhara

Though long ago and far
Beyond the winding road
Always beyond every bend
A beautiful land still waits for the few
Who make it to the very end

*1 repeat
*2 repeat 5 times

No 'holy and bright' is the end title for the second season (it replaced ganhara). The sad music is called 'thank you baby'. use this link to see all the lyrics for songs based on music used in monkey.
