Not as violent as its reputation would have you believe

Watched it with my 5 year ole boy , was great. Nice Old school simple animation, compared to all the flashy cranked up to 10 stuff we get these days. And also very good morals given by the story. Had a grimms fairy tale feel to it, with out the fairytale part. 9/10

I loved this film as a kid. I use to get so excited whenever it aired on TV (mostly on HBO in the very early 1980s). I tried watching it with my nephew when he was about 5, and as soon as the field turned to blood he ran out of the room. A few months ago I tried watching it with my great niece (6) and great nephew (10) and sadly they were not interested in it, but that's my same great nice and great nephew that thought "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3" was boring and not scary. They kept calling Freddy "Wolverine Guy" LOL.

I really enjoyed the animation in this film too. Some of the scenery is really quite beautiful. The entire film was done with water colors. When I found that out I was amazed. As I always (stupidly so) looked at water colors as being something that only kindergartners messed with. That was a long time ago, and I simply didn't know much about art in my youth.

I agree it's a nice film, and it's nice to dial it back a bit from massive explosions, and fast car chases. Unfortunately, my niece and nephew didn't think so. I'm glad your son liked it though. The same film studio made another movie that has a similar look and feel it's called "The Plague Dogs". If you liked this one I recommend watching it too.
