The flying car at the end

Is the flying car at the end made from the car won at thunder road?

reply

Probably was, but that really ruined the movie in the end.

My job is to inform, not persuade- Dan Rather

reply

Yeah I agree about the end. I made peace with it thinking the producers/writers of "Grease" did that over the top scene as a means of showing them "driving off into the sunset to live happily ever after" but decided to over-sensationalized it to make a point, hence the flying car. So I don't think the car was meant to really fly in the literal sense, at least I hope not. That would be asking too much of suspended disbelief even.

reply

The whole movie was fantasy and you can only complain about the car????

aww...is the little girl mad? it was a valid question crybaby. The whole film is filled with fantasy segments and you have a problem with the car? k.....

reply

The flying car scene was a reference to a line Ms. Murdock said earlier in the film, right before the races. She said "If it were any better, it would fly."

By the end of the film, it WAS better....and it DID fly.

I disagree but you're entitled to believe that even if it is wrong.

reply

Disagreeing doesn't just instantaneously mean that the other person is wrong.

"My father will hear about this."

Cool answer!

I don't know. I think it was the director's way of saying this is just a musical after all. You know, fantasy, fluff, and not reality. Kind of like high school if you think about it. Or one's memories of high school that are often quite different than the reality. Notice brutal bullying, actual heartache or racism/sexism isn't depicted here.

I thought it was a nice touch.

reply

I can't with you!!! LMAO!

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

If it was' then he just stole his friends car!

It wasnt me, it was the other three. Hang them!

reply

It was the late 70's, based on a musical. What do you want? lol It's just light hearted and fun.

reply

It's soooooooooo lame though

reply

What does the late 70s have to do with it? Are you saying no movie followed logic then? Are you saying it's okay to do whatever in a film because it's "fun"?

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

I think it was the imaginary car they were dancing on during grease lightning song

reply

It was.

Seems like it--maybe Kinicke took the car that blasts fire and gave Danny Greased Lighting, since he won the race/both cars for him. And the flying bit is sort of an homage to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which ends the same way, and I agree with the others--the opening credit cartoons let you know the whole thing is supposed to be a fantasy and not to be taken seriously

Nilbog! It's goblin spelled backwards! This is their kingdom!

reply

I thought I read somewhere that it was an homage to the silly types of teen movies they did in the 50s/60s.
I do find it goofy and a bit out of place to most of the rest of the film, but it's like 1minute out of the whole flick so it's tolerable.

reply

"Star Wars", "Blade Runner", "The Fifth Element" and "The Animatrix" all had flying cars. But all of those movies were science fiction.
