Nobody does anything about The Hulk but McGee

There is a lot of silliness about nobody do anything about The Hulk but McGee, the only one who believes he's real, people do see him but don't do anything about it.TV stories are more complicated than they were in the 70's how hard would it be to make sure nobody does anything about it.

reply

It was a 70's TV thing were he had to remain hidden.

reply

A rival tabloid to the National Register hired a mercenary to trap and kill the Hulk in 'Bring Me The Head Of The Hulk', so McGee was believed by some.

reply

Apart from that no one else did anything about it. The whole unreliable witnesses thing was just ridiculous and annoying because storytelling on television now is much more complicated than it was in the 70's and 80's, in reality the hulk outs would be hard to keep under the radar.

reply

The episode 'Proof Positive' tackled this controversy, with McGee pointing out how the numerous Hulk sightings(like the boxing ring, football field, and Times Square) had been dismissed as hoaxes or publicity stunts. The power of human denial is a remarkable thing...

reply

Think it was because they didn't want to get into Hulk chased by government forces and FBI.

It's kinda a thing in television in those days, they set up a premise from the very beginning and never changes.

Human denial gets old over time.

reply

But it was not realistic that people would continue to deny it after all the public sightings of the Hulk, such as at the boxing match, in the NFL game, in the rock concert, walking down Times Square, and his appearance at the rodeo. That is too much evidence for it to be plausible that the very existence of the Hulk would be unknown to the general public and dismissed as a hoax by the people who did know about it.

reply

The belief in the Hulk is much like the real life belief in Bigfoot/Sasquatch. Many people all over the country have claimed to have seen them, even taken purported film footage(like the Patterson film that seems to be authentic, and never proven a hoax). Yet the scientific community continues to deny all eyewitness testimony as being unreliable, or an outright fraud(a man in a suit) or delusion. Not until a live or dead one is put on public display to be examined will such sightings be taken seriously, as outrageous as that may seem to some. General media skepticism still goes on today.

In the series, it wasn't until 'Prometheus' to start season 4 that the military had captured the Hulk, but of course they couldn't hold it, or verify David's identity as the elusive John Doe. Now, I do wish the show had changed direction after this to focus on the continued military pursuit of the Hulk, but for some unknown reason it was dropped, and not brought up again the rest of the season/series.

Wish also they continued with that, by today's standards Hulk being like a urban myth would last one or two seasons, TV back then they set up a premise that never changes through out. Perhaps from the start people don't know he's real until more destruction and caught on camera or smartphone. Also 70's/80's television had no long arcs or recurring subplots, all things resolved in one episode.

Except that, if Bigfoot was suddenly walking down Times Square the skepticism about it would disappear. The reason why people are skeptical about Bigfoot is because there is no evidence, there's plenty of evidence for the Hulk.

reply

The evidence for both the Hulk and Bigfoot is just about the same, that is eyewitness testimony(regardless of the public place) that scientists call unreliable, or blurry photos that they would say are either inconclusive or faked. Unless either creature was physically captured and made available for scientific study, those same scientists will dismiss it, regardless of what the public thinks or believes. Even David never saw the Hulk on film until the last TV reunion movie The Death Of The Incredible Hulk.

The military did encounter the Hulk in 'Blind Rage', and captured him in 'Prometheus', but obviously covered it all up from the public after he escaped(leaving McGee with no Hulk story to report!) The TV crew from 'Interview With The Hulk' did film him as well, but of course the Hulk destroyed the camera, and with it any direct evidence as well.

reply

Both people things about King Kong or Godzilla.

reply

In the world of CCTV and the internet there would be a ton load of evidence.

reply

Done all that because they didn't want to get into Hulk vs the military throughout the series. World is a lot more complicated as it was during the 70's due to the world of Twitter and Facebook or Homeland Security. People deny it all the time made them look stupid.

reply

In the world of CCTV and the internet it wouldn't work the same.

reply

McGee even bust his ass down the stairs to get Banner in "Proof Positive"

reply

The premise of the show would be difficult to pull off now because of everyone having a smartphone, camera and also YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, so Banner/Hulk wouldn't be hidden for long and would be up on YouTube for the world to see, it means McGee would be irrelevant.

reply

If Bigfoot was suddenly walking down Times Square, would anybody blink an eye in this day and age?

reply

Probably and posted on YouTube in a matter of mins, same with Godzilla or King Kong.

reply

If the show was done now more people would be after The Hulk.
