Hysterical! It's a moment that is shocking not only for its rugged audacity (it comes following a s2eries of bitter disappointments for Reggie) but something that would NEVER be included in a movie today, which is a shame. It would be labeled "homophobic" or "anti-gay" by some fascist group or another. But it has nothing to do with homosexuals and everything to do with Reggie retaining his dignity as a man after being emasculated by this self-righteous, condescending female owner ("if kids see violence, they'll become violent.").
It's certainly something that seems wholly understood by the female writer of this film, Nancy Dowd.
Explain how someone retains his dignity by hurling the most egregious insult he can think of at a woman, who has certainly earned a legitimate insult, by castigating her 8 year old son and at the same time letting everyone know that he thinks having a homosexual son is the worst thing that any parent could ever have to endure.
