This movie is so sick

my subject name explains my point, I put this up because no one else is talking about it, anyone else out there have any other crazy movies like this that they would like to recommend?

The Quiet Earth

What's so sick about the Last Wave, it's an excellent film. The Quiet Earth too.

For the crazy list add Possession with Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani - mental film but totally enjoyable if you like your films 100% warped.

reply

Altered States. I personally didn't like The Quiet Earth very much, for some reason I thought the explaination of why they were left was stupid (Anyway, wasn't the movie for me)

reply

I believe that when he said "sick," he meant it in the sense of "very cool," rather than disturbing or perverted.
And I agree. :-D

This is a recommendation for those that like their
heavy vibes sunny side up...and if you dug The Last Wave
then you'r freaky enough to have already seen it:

Fantastic Planet

An early '70s French Sci-Fi animated movie, that I would
call a master-work...

Make sure to watch it when you are kinda irritable and it is
3:00 a.m. and you can't sleep but have to be to work by 8:00 a.m....
It will put your head in a strange place for the whole day....

Enjoy!

... (only the music´s nerving me). its so imaginative and friendly and wise and against speciecism -- wonderful!

i wrote about "fantastic planet".

i also like "the last wave", but i don´t think that people which like one of them, surely will like the other one, too. i think that "last wave"rs will also love "picnic at hanging rock" - don´t you think?

friendly regards

I had chills throughout this entire movie...loved it

reply

I'll go both ways and suggest movies that are good and freaky.

Jacob's Ladder
Liquid Sky
Videodrome

reply

CHECK OUT THE FINAL EQUATION ...ITS STRANGE AND EERIE

reply

I really don't think there is anything comparable to The Last Wave - one of it's strengths is it's originality. I guess in terms of mood and foreboding atmosphere, watching it on a double bill with Picnic At Hanging Rock would be pretty cool.
Weir is one of the few filmmakers working in mainstream Hollywood who I wish would work a bit more. He's becoming the new Stanley Kubrick!

reply

Picnic at Hanging Rock-similar in feel to Last Wave. Creepy, inexplicable stuff happening in
australia

reply

The Last Wave RULES! But don't bother with "Hanging Rock" unless you're having trouble sleeping. ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz.

"Oh Benson, dear Benson, you are so mercifully free of the ravages of intelligence."

reply

I think that there is a link between picnic at HR and last wave...both are dealing with the supernatural and in both movies there are endings who require a bit of interpretation and imagination.

This movie is a trip, but Picnic at Hanging Rock is amazing...

reply

the last wave is all but sick....
it's pure visions and pure consideration of dreams...
the soundtrack is also spectacular it's a real waste that was never released.
I love Weir's works and the Last Wave has a huge slice of it

reply

'Sick' why can't you just say "Excellent" or "insightful".....must be american....

reply

A close cousin to this film would be "Don't Look Now" by Nicolas Roeg.

reply

I agree! "Don't Look Now" is also an EXCELLENT film.

reply

Seconded. This is also an excellent moody psychological thriller about premonitions set in a very eerie environment that mirror's the protagonists mental state. I'd also recommend The Wicker Man and Walkabout as other films that create a very strange mood using entirely realistic environments and weaving a sense of unsettling discord through them.

reply

You have to watch Lost Highway (or anything by David Lynch)if you liked The Last Wave, actually I still remember watching it. I slept on the couch that night because I was too terrified to my bedroom upstairs. The background noise in the movie eats your brain out, I loved it!

I watched it yesterday in these conditions. You're right.

reply

Yeah, finally got a copy of "The Last Wave" from America of all places.

Awesome, creepy film. Reminded my of PAHR big time.

reply

I liked "The Last Wave". It's one of the forgotten Peter Weir Films. The movie "The Reflecting Skin" also rates high on my weird or "sick" (as in good) meter.

reply

This movie is so sick that is great. Want to get creeped out? Watch this film!
