I saw Persona first and was blown away, and just finished watching 3 Women today and had the same reaction. I'm not sure which one was better; Persona is more subtle and ambiguous, but 3 Women was even more powerful in my opinion. What are your thoughts about the two films?
share3 Women is smoother, more imaginative and actually more teasingly enigmatic than Bergman´s film. Persona 8/10 vs 3 Women 9/10.

I see that I gave Persona a 10, while 3 Women got 9, but these judgments are so subjective... The fact is I can't do without either film. Bergman provided more emotional satisfaction (the speech about the sexual episode on the beach that Bibi Andersson delivers is a knock-out) but 3 Women offers more care in mise-en-scene (the sets, the costumes, Shelley Duvall's hilarious patter).
shareBoth films are just lovely! I say they are equal, at least for me personally! I prefer Bergman as a director, but Andersson, Ullman, Spacek, and Duvall are four of my favorite actresses. All brilliant in their respective roles. I think Duvall does the best performance of all four in her respective role though. So I might afterall have to give 3 Women the slight edge.
